The Important Issue

As I was walking around school today, watching the people sitting around, some were smoking, and others walking with an astonishing determination to reach their destination. I asked myself what appears to be a simple question, what is important? To me it seems that, there has to be something that all of us are striving for. What is that thing? The most universal and the easiest answer that came to me right away was money. As it should be, if you were in the same surroundings you would say that too. Think about it, school is where people go to get an education and ultimately a degree that will help them earn money to have a good life. Should that really be the end of it? Is money the most important thing in the world? Thinking about it a bit more I remembered conversations I have had with several people in which they told me that money is not important to them at all. Of course, I dismissed this notion as a lie that they even tell themselves and I stand by my assumption. As we all want to believe we are better creators than we really are, but when it comes down to it we will do anything to get more money. That may be too general a statement, but it is the truth. If we want more we will tell our selves that it is within our rights to take from those we believe don’t deserve to have any. We justify our actions by the lies we tell ourselves to keep a clean conscience. Moving away from the ugly generalization I just realized I was making, that I think may offend every human being in the universe. My initial point I was hoping to make was that, to different people, different things are important. Not considering if these are results of lies they tell themselves and others. But is anything really that important? Other than fulfilling your basic needs, such as eating food and breathing oxygen, is there anything else? Nothing really matters as long as you can acknowledge the true consequences of interacting with nature. Man made consequences to be differentiated from these. For example, if you fall you may hurt yourself and if you kill someone you may be arrested, there is a difference. The first issue involves a nature’s consequence but the second involves a consequence made by man. Which one is real? You decide. What is important? I’ll leave that to you too.
