ORGAN DONATION

PLEASE. I would LOVE some advice on this, from recipients and also from donators.

I’m seriously considering testing myself to see if I’m a match with my uncle, to donate him a kidney. This matter is pretty important to me. He’s always been poorly, his heart, his lungs, kidney failure, bones, etc. Every year, at Christmas when he visits, it’s like… Is he going to be here next year? A couple years ago he got TB, and the next he had a heart attack.

He goes for Dialysis 3 times a week for 4 hours. I feel that donating a kidney to him, if I can, would definitely improve his quality of life. I mean, he has cats, who he loves, and he doesn’t get to look after them as much. He wouldn’t have to worry about so much you know? He really suffers enough as it is.

He’s not yet on the list for a Transplant, but he should be in a few months. I’ve never been properly ill with anything but a few stomach bugs at worst. We’re not blood related as he and my mum were both adopted from different places. She tested for a match in 2004 but was unsuccessful. SO who knows. If I can, I want to.

My parents both work in a Hospital and have a lot of experience with kidney related things. My mum said that she feels the benefit to him would not be worth the risk to me.  My dad said he thinks my uncle would need to think very seriously about the idea and stuff…

I just raved to my Dad about the selfishness of people who choose not to donate organs when they die. I mean, fasir enough for religion and stuff, but sometimes it’s just vanity. It’s so stupid. why the hell wouldn’t you change someones life with something simple like that if you had the choice!?!
