running stuffs

so after attempting unsuccessfully since march, i have finally completed my 5k goal!  that is, 3.1 miles without stopping. that second part is key for me. i kept getting to 2 miles then getting blisters, sick, or unmotivated and quitting for a while. i’d resume but by the time i was about to make any progress i found another reason to stop. i’ve been quite motivated since moving and i’d only been running like 2 miles but today i was just motivated and kept going. it is a great feeling and i promised myself a professional massage when i made it, so i guess i’ll schedule that soon.

now i feel like i can move on to bigger goals and i feel like i can actually accomplish them, so here they are:

november 1: run a 5k in 28 minutes. run a 7:30 mile.

january 1: run 5 miles, any speed, without stopping

next summer: sign up and train for a half marathon. oh, i don’t know about that one, even the idea is intimidating but if i have a lot of free time… i saw a 10 week schedule for it that looks doable and i have at least 13 weeks over the summer so we’ll see what i can do. if i ever finished a half marathon i would be on top of the fucking world.

it’s so funny, a couple of years ago i never thought that i could be remotely athletic, i just didn’t think i had it in me and i didn’t care about it either; exercise was only for weight loss. then i started caring about health and wanting to live for forever and exercise for fighting depression and stress and such too. now i actually enjoy running and the setting of goals and actually freaking achieving them. now i feel like running and being a little athletic and being in good shape are real possibilities for me. running 3 miles i feel like i’m in decent shape and when i can run 5, i will really feel like i am in good shape.

Hmm that makes me feel lazy, because two years ago I had the goal to run ONE mile without stopping by the end of the semester…and I did, but now I can’t. I have found it a lot easier this semester to actually make it to Pilates a couple of times a week though. Congrats on making your goals 🙂
