Companion

“I never found the companion
that was so companionable
as solitude.”

-Thoreau

I haven’t written lately; well, not in OD. I have been writing, reading, and having wonderful meetings…

I’ve been reading my old journals lately.
I attended my niece’s high school graduation party.
I’ve given and received advice from old and new loved ones.

In reading my old stuff, I see that I thought I knew what I wanted,
I thought I was in love, I thought I was already equipped
with enough knowledge to survive…

I was wrong, wrong, wrong, back then. And I now know that
I am not equipped with enough knowledge, ever. Not to know what I want forever,
other than to always be learning, loving, sharing.
And I also now know that I was never really in love. Never.

Until recently.

(Thoreau was obviously never in love.)
