Pappa

A few years ago , when I was in high school, I one day decided that I want to see the movie "Hum Aapke Hai Kaun" because I hadn’t seen it since I saw it in the theatre when it first came out.  My dad had a few hours before he had to go to work, so he was sleeping.  Back then, my dad worked 7 days a week and only had half a Sunday off. So, I went to my dad and told him that I want to go get that movie on DVD before he goes to work and he said that he is tired right now, he will get it for me tomorrow.  And I said, no I want to see it tonight. And he said wait until tomorrow. And then mummy came and told me that pappa has to go to work in a few hours, just let him rest for a little bit.

So, i said okay, fine.  But then my face kinda dropped and I took me and my sad face to the living room and started going through what other movies I could watch.  A few minutes later, my dad came dressed to go out and he said let’s go , beta.  He had seen my face.

He drove me to the Indian store and I got my movie and then when we were driving back he told me that when he was little, he had these red velvet shorts that he loved and insisted on wearing every day.  One day, the shorts ripped and he went home and told everyone that he wouldn’t eat until he got another pair of shorts just like it right then and there.  My dadi was like you can get it on Sunday and he insisted that no, he wants it right then and there.  Then, my dada came home and saw what was going on and my dada took my dad to get the shorts he wanted that very night.  And he said "after all this time, I still remember that. "

"These are the things you remember, beta".

How true, indeed.

Random: Awe… that really is touching. And you will/do remember those things. Adults assume that as kids we won’t remember the little things, but we really do.
