My nani became an American citizen today.

She is 74 and has only been to school till the 2nd grade.  That, too, in India and in Gujarati. She didn’t use to speak a word of English.  She spent night and day memorizing all of the questions they could ask her for months. I remember coming to say bye to her in the morning and she would be trying to memorize how to spell some sentence , practically, in her sleep.

I am very proud of her. It was one of those things that everyone said she wouldn’t be able to do.  There was no way, no how and that we are just wasting money by even letting her apply.  Even I had my doubts as to how she could manage.  But she worked so hard that it paid of.  And, I am glad 🙂
