No More Kindergarten

First day of Kindergarten vs. Last day of Kindergarten

Yesterday was Salem’s last day of school/ I know she is too young to understand potentially how much will change come 1st grade, but I was really shocked that she wasn’t emotional at all. Her teacher must have done a really good job preparing them for the end of the year because Salem can get pretty attached to people, and all she had to say when I asked if she was going to miss her was, "She will always be my number one teacher and I will love her. " Well then, she told me!

Her last day if school was a minimum day, and for her that meant starting school 3 hours earlier than normal. I woke her up and got her right to getting ready. She slept in our bed all night because her daddy never moved her into her bed and we found out why when we walked in her room. He had brought home like 50 balloons and left them in her room for her. I told her she could pick whatever she wanted to wear since she picked out her outfit on the first day too. She of course picked out a dress because I normally don’t let her wear them to school.

Early days she walks with her class to another classroom in the back of the school because her class and the PM class share the same classroom and they need to get through some of their studies before her class bombards them. I always walk her in the gate, and several months ago she let me know I didn’t have to wait for them to go in class anymore before I left. Yesterday I sat in my car and watched her line disappear as they walked to the back of the school with tears in my eyes. I am so proud of all she did this year.

They didn’t do a promotion ceremony which I was really upset about, so Scott and I planned to take her and surprise her with a trip to Farrell’s Ice Cream. We hadn’t been there before, but I knew it’s reputation and it totally sounded like something Salem would love. We made the 20 minute drive for nothing though. You have to stand in line when you get there and wait to be seated. After 15 minutes and only moving 5 feet in the line, all of the ice cream and candy was no match for Salem’s impatience. So instead we went to Johnny Rocket’s and she had a milk shake with her meal.

Tonight we are taking her to the drive in. We actually still have one by us. We have never been there before either, but all the reviews online say it’s great. Plus, with the baby and all, I will actually get to watch our movies, no matter how loud he gets. Salem doesn’t know what in the world a drive in is, so I think she will be pretty excited. We are going to lay down the seats in the car, wear our pajamas, and cuddle with blankets and pillows. I’ll be bringing plenty of toys for Ian too. We are going to watch Men in Black 3 and The Avengers. We asked her if she would rather watch MIB, or Madagascar, and she picked MIB with a smile on her face. Plus, she loves super heroes, so The Avengers being paired together with it is perfect. Hopefully she stays awake. I know Ian won’t make it to the second movie, but thats just fine with me. Can’t beat 2 movies for the entire family for $15!!!!!!!

That is Salem’s best friend Adisynn and her teacher Mrs. Gass.

Oh and she got a near perfect report card, again!! Here’s to my baby girl!

So adorable, but I have to ask why you don’t let her wear dresses to school? That is almost all Samara wears. Plus grades in kindergarten? My how things have changed.

RYN I normally buy mine skirts with shorts under them, or she likes pants under them. i do see your point. I don’t worry so much about her ruining them, since she mainly only wears dresses meh…

That’s so sweet that Scott did that for her! We have a drive-in here too, though we’ve never been. We should really do that, but I’m not big on sitting (I don’t even like to go to regular movies!), so I can’t imagine spending that much time with my butt in a car seat!

What a sweetie-pie! Love her pics, and she says the cutest things…I can learn from them, too. *HUG* Hey, Denise and I used to go to a Farrel’s when we were in high school here. They are no longer here 🙁 They had the best candy store around inside, which I liked as much as the ice creams…..

those first two pictures show how much she grew in a year! her head is much more over that bar then in the first. and i see a shy girl in the first pic…but a confident, ready-to-go girl in the second. thats’ the perfect way to approach school years! good job mom!
