Coastal Walk
Hi Guys,
Yesterday was the hottest day in recorded history in Aberdeen and we decided to go on a coastal walk and it was muchos enjoyable. The BBC provided us with a walk to do, and it can be found here. It started by looking out over the docks, my regular readers will know that I wanted a boat last summer but couldn’t think of a name for it so there went my dream. I really liked looking at the boats I don’t know why maybe I was marvelling at how such big metal things stayed afloat, you must admit it is impressive, millions of tonnes of steel sitting on top of the water, why doesn’t it sink? It really makes you think…
Anyway here is the photos, I will talk you through them but I can’t reduce the size of the images so it may take a while to load, bear with it…
A view from the road looking out over the docks, most are supply vessels for the oilrigs I think.
Another view from the road, in the background is one of the bridges over the Rive rDee and there’s a big boat too.
Another boat going past the new harbour headquarters, I think that’ll be the last phot of boats I promise, I just thought it was quite a nice picture…
A picture of Aberdeen beach you can see fun beach, the beach ballroom and the tower blocks in the distance.
Torry Battery, this was the first sight of the Battery, a full explanation of this can be found here.
The ‘door’ to the battery, there is a date above the door which says 1860.
Here is more of the Battery with a view of the Docks and river and everything.
Continue along the path and we found a little beach, which was a complete surprise, just behind the breakwater with a lighthouse on the end, it was a nice little surprise in amongst all the rocks.
We saw this crazy looking fly on a heather plant so had to take a photo, it’s probably quite a common sight but it looked odd to us.
A view from the otherside of the breakwater.
Looking up at the Balnagask lighthouse and fog horn from the beach below.
A picture of the path we walked, I cannot recommedn enough how great the views are doing this, I can’t believe we waited so long to do.
After we went back into the city. We had some lunch and drank lager. There was an exhibotion of Leonardo DaVinci pictures at the art gallery and it was amazong. I hope some of my work, perhaps this diary will be about in 500 yewars time, although I am not writing backwards and it’s not groundbreaking literature but maybe it’ll be around.
Anyway afetrwards we headed off to Duthie Park to have a look at the rose garden and the Winter Gardens.
Here’s the rose garden, although we had taken too many photos in the morning so we couldn’t take too many here, which is a shame because it’s one of my favourite places in the world.
Here’s me in the Winter Gardens. It was incredibly HOT inside!
More flowers from the inside, they ar epretty aren’t they.
They have a bannana tree and it was in fruit too, it’s crazy to see bannanas growing at a lattitude north of Moscow in Aberdeen!
I hope you have enjoyed our day out, we are hopefully heading out again soon to see Hazelhead so will there will be more pictures soon, and I might even let you see our photos from Elgin from the other day.
I promise I will write more regularly but we are moving soon so please bear with me and note me if you like me.
Thanks
Sam
