All sorts of things
So, we’re back home. Actually, we’ve been back for a week. I’ve been trying to recover from my vacation. I’m so dang tired lately that I can barely stay awake. Plus, after almost 3 weeks of hardly any computer time, I’ve been trying to spend less time on here now that I’m home, too. It hasn’t been too hard to do since most of my free time has been spent napping. I think I wrote an entry while we were at my parents, but I don’t feel like clicking back and checking. So here’s the condensed version I posted on one of my message boards, also.
We had a great Christmas and New Year’s. The family decided that since we had a van now that it meant they could go all out for the boys, which almost resulted in everything NOT fitting in. We did actually leave a spare cat carrier at my parents because there just wasn’t anywhere to put it. Matt and I got mainly money to buy whatever we wanted, so we got some things for ourselves. We had a great time seeing everyone, though it was sad to leave because it is unlikely we will make it back once we are in CA. We know Matt won’t due to his crazy work hours, and I’m not sure I’ll be up to flying with the two boys. It’s sad to think that us seeing our grandparents especially that it could be the last time since they are all getting up there in years and poor health. But, I tried not to think too much about that until after we’d left at least.
We had snow while home. Derek loved getting to go sledding and kept hoping we’d get more snow after it all melted. It was bitterly cold to us (but warm to them). So nice to be back in our 50-60 degree weather. Had some drama since my brother was home the first half of the time we were there concerning his drinking and attitude problems lately. My dad finally got tested for sleep apnea, which we all knew he has had, and he ended up getting his breathing machine for it the day we left. I was hoping to get to spend some time with him when he wasn’t falling asleep every 10 minutes, but hopefully they will visit us before we leave in June and things will be much better there.
Anyhow, nothing too exciting has happened since we got back. I plan on starting a diet in the near future, but I need to get my mindset right to do so and get rid of some of these damn cravings for fattening fast food first. I have no willpower it seems. I’ve been trying to get all the Christmas gifts put away, which I’m still not done with. I’m way behind on laundry. My house is a disaster. And, I don’t feel like doing anything. Derek’s off school three days next week for the holiday and two teacher work days, so that is sure to mess up my schedule. He also has a doctor appointment for his follow-up for ADHD evaluation. I’m almost certain he has it. I got our taxes done this week. We’re getting back $6826 between federal and state. I love the EIC and Child Tax Credit. Plus, we withhold at the single rate so that we get more back anyhow. It’s our own little savings account. Unfortunately for us, that savings will be helping us afford to live in California when we get there. At least we have some money to fall back on. I think Matt will have to use some of it to pay $$ up front when he leaves for school in April until they reimburse him for the travel expenses. We aren’t quite sure how that’s supposed to work yet.
Anyhow, I guess that’s it. Until next time…
wow nice tax refund. We’re loving EIC and the Child Tax too, even with just one child. Every penny of our return is going to pay off old debts though. James is paying at a no-dependents rate so hopefully that gives us more money back than he would’ve gotten. We haven’t gotten his w2 yet though. Sucks you’re having to use it to move though. I hope you like CA even with the higher COL.
