Tis the Season
I absolutely love this time of year and I’m mad at myself for not writing about it more. Good entries bring back great memories and it’s almost as if I relive the moment when I re-read them. I was in the holiday spirit full swing this year. I listened to Christmas music in the car constantly and then hummed the tunes throughout the day. I sang ‘The First Noel’ in the shower, I even had a friend at work burn me the Bing Crosby classic carols CD. Poor Mark has also had to suffer through this. We drove home for the past two weekends and we listened to Christmas carols the whole way, both ways, 2.5 hours each way. He’s a good sport though, he doesn’t complain. My house is decorated, I am even one of the few neighbors with lights. Given it’s just an apartment, there aren’t many. I have completed all my Christmas duties, even got to make Christmas cookies with Mark’s family and won for the nicest decorated cookie (his step grandmother was the judge). I bought a little 2 foot tree, hung a mistletoe and light my cinnamon and pine smelling candles just about every evening. I truly am a December baby.
Speaking of, my birthday just recently passed (Dec 17th) and I don’t think I wrote about it. A whole 24 years old, can you believe it? It was a nice bday considering I had work all day. More people than I thought remembered my bday and I started work with 6 or 7 happy bday emails from co-workers, it was nice. My bosses took me out to lunch, Olive Garden, which I didn’t have to clock out for and got paid for a 2.5 hour delicious lunch. It was awful nice of them. They even got me gifts, I was surprised and very thankful. It made my day. Once I got back from lunch Mark surprised and had flowers delivered to my desk at work! He’s so smart! I knew he would get me flowers, but I just thought they’d be home waiting for me instead. They looked nice on my desk for the day. Mark also tried to get me a really pretty Christmas snow globe but it came in the mail the day before my birthday broken so Mark had to tell me. He tried and he knows it’s something I would like too.
After we went out to dinner, I was in the bed room packing bc we were going away for the weekend when Mark called me into the living room. He said stop right there, so I stopped across the room from him and he said, "I have one more present for you, see if you can guess what it is." And her started playing the New York song from the new Jay Z cd and I was like NO!!!!! I knew exactly what it was, he got us tickets to see Jay Z in March in Pittsburgh! We tried last summer to get tickets for the DC show but they were sold out before we knew it. It was a good gift and an even better surprise!
The day after my bday, Friday the 18th, we drove to his moms house in the country in WV to make Christmas cookies with his family. We knew a (so-called) blizzard was coming but we went anyways not wanting to miss out on all the holiday-family-fun. They were calling for 10-14 or so inches that Friday night so we figured it would be fine to leave by Sunday. When we got to his parents house the forecast just changed, then it moved to 14-18 inches of snow, then 20-24! I’ve never seen it snow that long in my life. It started Friday night and snowed the entire Saturday from when I woke up at 8:30 am clear until dark. Sure enough we got about 20 inches and we were totally and completely stuck, but there’s no where else I’d rather be.
