I smell yummy

Just got out of the shower at 9:30 at night, ahhhh life with kids. Small ones at least, I like to think once they can amuse themselves I’ll get to shower before going out in the morning again. I apparently need to somehow bottle my post-shower smell, my coworkers are always telling me how good I smell when they walk by and I’ve had total strangers ask me what perfume I’m wearing. I pretty much stopped that after having Riley, I was always afraid she’d eat it off me trying to get to the boobs 😛

This past weekend was our friends’ wedding, it was an effing long day. Phil was in the wedding party so my mom came down Friday while he was at the rehearsal dinner to help me with bedtime. We ended up spending way too long at the mall trying to find an outfit for Sam, millions of racks of dresses, not ONE of dressy stuff for boys. I finally ended up getting him a linen shirt and khaki shorts at Old Navy that he never even wore (more on that later). So Saturday morning my mom left and took Riley home with her. They live 2 hours away *sniff* Phil handed me a Corona at 9 AM and sent me to the shower lol. It was kind of nice doing hair and makeup without interruption.

We left here at 11:30 for a 5 PM wedding, got down there close to 1 and the girl I was supposed to be meeting up with wasn’t at the hotel. I guess they’d had a rough morning and she was running her kids around to the sitters and whatnot so I spent 3 hours with a girl who stopped talking to Phil and I around the time we had Riley. I guess on the plus side we hadn’t spoken in about 2 years so we had a lot to talk about. It was around this time I found the fatal flaw in our wedding plan – Sam is not a portable baby. Riley only ever slept on me and had no routine until she was almost a year old so we could take her anywhere. Sam is a busy body who will only sleep if there are no distractions and HATES sleeping on me. He also hates being worn and I had brought a carrier for the wedding since I wasn’t sure what the space would be like. He also doesn’t sleep in the car, so he was awake the whole drive down – happy, but awake – and was already overtired when we got there. Then people were in and out of the room and he would not close his eyes for anything. Then the screaming started, so fun. I ended up walking the hotel hall with the pacifier jammed in his mouth and my hand over his eyes.

Of course less than an hour later we had to leave. Once again he didn’t sleep in the car to the wedding. Luckily at this point he was tired enough when I put him in the carrier he screamed, but it was a short walk to the ceremony spot and he passed out walking and stayed asleep through the ceremony. It was stinking hot (85+) and humid. The wedding coordinator was nice enough to get me a seat off to the side in the shade, which was also close to the path out (in case he melted down). Everyone joked we were the baby section after my friend finally showed up with her 10 day old.

Anyway, long story short I did not have a good time. It was nice since they’re good friends and all, but the reception was in a barn with no A/C so Sam was in a diaper the whole time. I had tried keeping just his shirt on, but when I looked under he was all rashy so he and his friend were hanging out undressed. We tried to keep the babies outside where there was a nice breeze, but the waitstaff was getting flustered not knowing who was sitting where, I guess, so we had to keep going back in. Basically Phil and I took turns eating because every time we went inside Sam cried. We were also seated next to the speakers, that didn’t help, and at a table of the groom’s friends who we didn’t know. I guess there wasn’t enough room at the college table where my friends were. After dinner everyone, and I mean everyone, moved outdoors. There were some picnic tables, but people were dragging chairs out, even. I did feel a little bad, I think the bride was annoyed not many were dancing. Even hanging out with our friends wasn’t all that fun since they kept talking about a party "girl who doesn’t talk to us" is having and we’re clearly not invited to. I was happy to get home.

Riley apparently hadn’t napped at my parents’ so we had two "off" babies on Monday. Riley bounced back pretty quick, but Sam is still all messed up, his daytime sleep has been jacked since Saturday. By the time we get back to normal it will be Saturday again and we’re spending the day 2 hours away for Phil’s family reunion *sigh* That plus the 9 week growth spurt should make him just a joy. I told Phil I’m going to end up spending the day locked away nursing.

Oh my friend had her baby last week! I was really excited, but ended up being told I couldn’t visit because someone’s dad was coming instead or something? I don’t know. I was supposed to go the next day instead and saw on Facebook they were discharged early so I have yet to meet the little guy. We won’t have time this week between my double dentist appoint tomorrow and double pedi appointments on Thursday. Maybe I’ll see what she’s doing Friday if our friend ends up not hosting her play date. Crazy how busy some weeks are and then others just drag on by.

So this will mean nothing to most of you, but it seems Jensen Ackles, the other lead on Supernatural, may be attending the convention in New Jersey next year. It’s a big deal because he has always done them all except Jersey for whatever reason. The company hadn’t announced it officially but he mentioned it in an apology to fans for canceling Paris. I was going to try and go this summer because there are 2 supporting cast members I really want to see that I haven’t yet, but I’d have to bring Sam and I don’t think we’ll have the money. Plus my BFF and sis won’t go if Jensen isn’t there, sooooo looks like I’ll at least have company if I wait until next year. And I can go kid free! It has been almost a year since my first con in Nashville, it feels like longer 🙂

Ughhhhh, we’re having never ending thunderstorms tonight and I’d really appreciate them not waking my child. Sam is starting to stir for his before bedtime snack and I don’t want to have Riley running around while trying to get him down. I guess at least we didn’t get the tornado watch, it was close.

Real quick, since I didn’t last time

LOVE the photos! your kiddos are adorable. Sorry you didn’t have a good time at the wedding – that’s hard when you’re thrust back into a group that you don’t really talk to much anymore, plus its super hot and you have a cranky baby.
