Not sure how much time I’ll get
So I’ll start with the most exciting news – Phil told me his dad is up for a job in Orlando. ORLANDO, people. They have a tendency to fly us to wherever they move (they’ve lived 3 different places since I’ve known them so far) which could mean a free trip to Orlando….you know what’s in Orlando, right? Okay, I’ll stop saying Orlando. But DISNEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m kind of a Disney fah-reak and there’s no way we can afford to do it for a long time, but if they move and they fly us to visit….YES. Of course there’s no guarantee anything will come of it, but it was a bright spot in an otherwise challenging morning.
Sam is 6 weeks old today, 6 weeks is not my favorite time. There’s a pretty significant growth spurt which means lots of nursing, lots of fussing, and (for my kids) lots of spit up. Sam is cranky which makes me cranky and Riley is getting 2 molars and 2 eyeteeth which makes HER cranky. We’re one hot mess. But I haven’t yet called Phil crying and telling him to come home like I did with Riley, so, WIN!
Riley turned two last week. TWO, PEOPLE. Where did that time go? In the last week she has become totally fresh. It started a few days ago when I told her I was going to take her water away if she didn’t stop spitting it on the floor. She responded with "no, it’s mine". Ummmmm, never before have I heard her use the word mine. Today I told her to get out of the window (she climbed from the couch onto the sill) and she asked me why. Really? I told her she was going to get hurt, she asked why again. This went on until I physically removed her from the window. She’s apparently 2 going on 12. She has a best friend now and if any of her other little buddies try to talk to her when Charlotte is around she yells NO at them. I’m guessing that’s partially developmental, not knowing how to interact with more than one person at once?, but I do plan on working on that especially. I don’t want her to be a bully! And to think just a month or two ago I was wringing my hands because she seemed so shy and antisocial.
She’s also exceedingly cute, though, and in love with her brother. He was crying on the way to the store the other day and I was told "Baby is hungry, baby need milk" (side note, we cannot get her to call him Sam, he’s always baby). He had to have a stick for a bili test yesterday and when he started crying she was right in his face "Baby, you hurt?" If he starts crying she SHOVES me and tells me to go get him and every once in awhile she goes "Baby is cuuuuuuute" and covers her mouth while she giggles. He apparently loves her, too. I work hard to get an occasional smile from him, but all she has to do is look at him and he’s all grins. Literally, today I reached my breaking point and put him down on the couch because he wouldn’t take the boob or paci and just kept crying. As soon as Riley got in his face he stopped crying and smiled at her. Awesome, I told Phil she could take over now.
I’ve been pretty boring lately, hanging with the 2 and under set does that to you. Phil and I went to see The Avengers last weekend while my parents were up for Riley’s party and that was awesome. I have big time love for Thor and Iron Man. It was Cinco de Mayo and my coworkers were going out. I declined thinking I’d catch up on sleep instead, but Sam’s sleep schedule was all messed up since he didn’t eat while we were gone and I ended up awake until 2 AM anyway. Should have gone out. We’re going to a wedding in 2 weeks, that’s kind of exciting! Riley is having her first sleepover at my parents’ without us (they live 2 hours away) and the bride was gracious enough to let us bring Sam. Phil was appalled I contacted her to ask if it was an adults only reception. I didn’t see anything wrong with it since they’re close friends and I wasn’t asking to bring Sam, just checking to see what the deal was before I stressed about pumping a ton. The wedding is an hour away and Phil is in it so we would have been gone a long time. Another of our couple friends are also bringing their breastfed baby, I’m really excited to see them again! She was still pregnant as of yesterday, rather overdue, so her babe will be brand new.
The weekend after the wedding Phil’s family is having a reunion of sorts a few hours from here. I’m stressed about the drive with the two of them and Riley not napping (she normally sleeps 3 hours, no nap would be BAD). Plus as much as I love Phil’s parents I don’t love the aunts and uncles on his dad’s side, should be interesting. His folks offered to get us a hotel room so we can stay overnight and have a place to take Riley to nap. I’m not sure if that stresses me more, we haven’t shared a room with Riley in over a year, not to mention Sam will be waking up and therefore waking her up. Someone suggested putting Riley in the bathroom, but I pee like 3 times a night.
I’ve only lost 14 of 35 lbs so far. Not even half, ugh. I know it takes awhile, but so many people on the message boards were back to pre-pregnancy weight before a month, even. It always makes me feel like a lazy slob. I never tried to lose weight after Riley until she was 8 months old and I had so many issues with my milk supply, it makes me nervous about doing too much too soon. Right now I have my food log set to maintain my current weight and am adding cals to that for breastfeeding and I lost 3.4 lbs this week. I didn’t even log Sat/Sun because of the party food! I’m going to keep my current settings for now and see if I keep losing. Seriously, my daily calorie goal is 2700. If I work out it’s over 3000.
And now Riley is awake. That was a super nap, almost 4 hours! Maybe because my husband didn’t use his brain last night and went into her room at 3 AM to get wipes instead of wiping Sam with a wet cloth. Of course that woke her up, between her and Sam I was awake 2 hours, ugh. She was super convinced it was time to play.
*random* I have 2 nephews, 2 and 4 yrs old. To this day, we STILL cannot get the 4 yr old to call his brother by his actual name. He always refers to him as BABY. He knows how to say his name and smiles when we tell him that he needs to call him that and he just says “No.. he’s baby”.
