the MOST memorable experience ever. EVER
so. how can you call yourself redsoxfan, and not go to the rolling rally? that occured on Saturday October 30th, starting at 10am? the answer to that is simply, you can’t. So. I trecked the 400+ miles to get up to Boston. Here’s the time line:
Friday 10.29
3:12 pm – depart by train for philadelphia. Turns out that one of the earlier trains headed up from further south, had gotten delayed. badly. due to a power outtage. Thus, TWO trainloads of people were on the one that I had a ticket for. So, by the time it reached my station, it was ALREADY standing room only. My stop, being the third stop from the first station. Luckily, I managed to get seat because someone who was riding for free got kicked outta hers. I felt really bad about that! but I guess, rules are rules?
5:00 pm – or there abouts, I arrived in Philly. Went to a happy hour with my friends.
6:00 pm – depart Philadelphia. Destination: Nashua, NH (as that’s where my friend’s parents lived)
Saturday 10.30
12:00 am – arrive in Nashua (okay, the driver is crazy speedy, that’s including two stops!)
12:30 am – sleep
4:15 am – ish. Wake up
5:07 am – depart Nashua. Destination: Boston!
6:00 am – or so. Arrive in Boston. Hit up a nearby 7-11 for morning sustiance.
6:45 am – stake out prime spot on parade route. RIGHT AT THE FENCE, near city hall. actually corner of Tremont and School Sts.
7:00 am – realize there are NO PUBLIC RESTROOMS. ANYWHERE. and quickly decide to forgo any type of liquid consumption
8:45 am – friend from HS joins are cluster of people at the fence.
6:45 am – 9:30 am – CHEERING like a madwoman at all the cars going by. (when they honk. Talk to some of the people who are stopped at the traffic light). Boston City Police Officer takes picture of crowd. One member of crowd decides, she wants picture of office. Then asks office to photograph her and her sister. Boston PD officers procede to take pictures of other people in the crowd (with the crowd’s cameras)
10:00 am – Rolling rally starts at fenway park. as does a nice steady mist (and us with no umbrella or poncho of any sort) (also, turn around to note that the crowd is 8 deep where we are)
11:30 am – or so. ROLLING RALLY APPROACHES. CONSTANT SCREAMING AND PICTURE TAKING!! and my camera crapped out on me. Not sure what I managed to get, and not sure how the rain will affect things. Hopefully I’ll get them developed by Wednesday, and i’ll try and post them here when I get them back.
1:00 pm – or so. Depart Boston (after calling my friend to tell her I can’t meet up with her, due to the HUGE MASS QUANTITES OF PEOPLE) and the only getting 3-4 hours of sleep that night.
3:00 pm – 5:00 pm – NAP TIME, followed by major tv watching (mostly parade coverage)
Sunday October 31
10:00 am – depart Nashua,NH
4:00 pm – arrive in Philly (after one gas stop, and one lunch stop. driver is INSANE)
4:30 pm – catch train
6:45 pm – arrive at home station.
ALL that traveling (counting now, 8 states stopped in/traveled through). all that lack of sleep. that test I have on wednesday which hasn’t been studied for yet. The expense of traveling (and tax free shopping in Nashua). The cost of going to see 8 games in my city (which isn’t boston), and of traveling up to boston for one home game? Pretty high.
The experience. Being able to experience this AMAZING season. The opportunity to scream my brains out one last time for this team which I’ve cheered for all season long? abso-freaking-lutely positively priceless.
amazing.
sucks that the pats amazing win streak is done. but. if the sox world series win has taught us anything. all things must eventually come to an end.
happy haloween.
i sleep now 🙂
Dang. That’s quite a trip. I know people who claim to be “HUGE” sox fans, but were “sick” and didn’t go, and they live in Boston! I went too! I left after 10 a.m. The advantages of living outside the city. I’m sure you got way better pictures than I did being in the front row! 🙂

AH!!! awesome, i’m glad you went. i was so upset about having to work. i can’t wait to see the pictures.

I was a red sox fan that didn’t. It was terribly unfortunate and I really wanted to, but I had to show a heifer that morning for my animal science class. And it was 40% of my grade. So I had to be there in spirit.
