Total random weirdness spawned at 3AM

Well, writing has bit my bum again… in a good way. For some reason when one is dopped on cold medicen, the muse becomes productive, even though you’re so tired you can’t make sense of the keys…. Irony, I tell you…. that or my muse is extremely pissy with me. ^^ Anyway! Totally random snippet of an old old piece that suddenly found life again after eons mouldering on the harddrive! Based on the old Space Pirate Captain Harlock series from the late 70’s early 80’s. ^^ Enjoy!

“Are your hands clean?” I scrutinized her pale hands that were upraised to take my daughter from my arms.

Kei blinked at me owlishly. “What’s that have to do with anything?”

I heard Harlock laughing. “She must be like me when I was little. I kept trying to chew on anything and everything.”

“Oh! So she gets it from you?” I rounded on him, my free hand on my hip as I arched an eyebrow at him. “I thought she took after me ‘cause Papa Zane had strange things in his cabinets that I loved to try to chew on. That is until I got into the wrong cabinet. Dear lord, what a scolding I got when I came out of that coma. Stopped doing it after that.” The little girl in my arms wiggled, reaching for Kei’s hands. I arched an eyebrow as Kei reached out for her. “I’m not joking when I say chewing on fingers is her greatest joy right now. That and trying to chew her father’s cape.”

I handed her over to Kei as the girl giggled and cooed over her, right before she yelped as Maya tried to bite down on her finger.

I shrugged at her scandalized look. “I tried to warn you. She’s a little heathen.” I grabbed Kei’s hand and pulled it away from her. “Maya, no.”

Little Maya looked at me with her big blue eyes and whimpered. She reached for my hand and I wagged my finger at her nose. “I said no, little one.” Her blue eyes filled with tears…

And as if on cue, she burst into tears. Little heart felt sobs and whimpers came from her mouth before her father, in the blink of an eye, swept her out of Kei’s arms, into his, and let her start chewing on the collar of his cape.

“Harlock!” I yelped as I saw him sit down on the chair, cuddling the little girl. I turned back to look at Kei. “And here I thought I was spoiling her.”

“I don’t like to hear her cry.” He smiled down at her as she giggled and chomped on the piping on his collar. “She’s too precious to cry… for any reason.”

“Sheesh, between you and your son, that girl will be a spoilt brat.” I couldn’t help but smile as he kissed her nose, sending her giggling and falling into his chest.

“I wasn’t there for Young Harlock’s early life. I deeply regret that. I won’t miss her childhood as well.” He brushed his fingers down her cheek as she watched him, oddly silent and fixed. There was a question in her eyes, and we watched as Maya cocked her head, little blond curls falling to the side.

“Papa.”

Her voice was clear and pure and I swear that he nearly dropped her. I felt my knees give way as I sat in the chair opposite of them as I watched.

His eye widened as he watched her smile, a bright giggle coming from her mouth at her father’s lost expression. “What did you say, little Maya?”

She grinned and reached up, patting his cheek as she stood on his thighs. “Papa!” She laughed again. “Papa! Papa! Papa!” She squealed as he pulled her close, wrapping her as tightly as he

dared.

I grinned as I saw Kei’s shocked expression. “I thought she’d say your name first, Rin.”

“No,” I laughed. “I knew she’d say that first. She worships the ground her father walks on… much like we all do.” I huffed. “Now, how can I top that gift?” I walked over to the both of them and wrapped both of them in my arms, snuggling my face into Harlock’s chestnut strands.

One of his arms snaked around my hips, holding me as tightly as he was holding Maya.

“Mama?” Her little voice quavered as she looked up at me with bright blue eyes once Harlock had loosened his grasp.

I laughed that I came in second. I stroked her blonde hair away from her face as she looked at me. “Papa’s happy, sweetheart. He’s not upset.” I smiled I watched her lean in and smother his face with wet and sloppy kisses.
