Why retail sucks, and why comission sucks worse!
I really hate working retail. Even worse is working retail in a comissioned department.
There’s something to be said for how money makes people act, and in a comissioned department, you see how people truly are.
You see, I work at a local (IE National) comany working ‘sales – comissioned’ retail.
I love my job, love the people I work with, but when people start taking my sales because I’m not ‘agressive’ enough, I hit the pissypoint.
Our old supervisor would put an stop to it instantly, but this new one from WI? Pfft, don’t make me laugh. She’s not a manager/supervisor, she’s a whip-welding cold hearted *cencored*. She doesn’t understand said person in the department because she LIKES her extremely agressive sales style. IE She STEALS from us.
Case in point:
You’ve been working with a lady for TWO MONTHS on what she’s going to buy. These are CUSTOM shades. IE Blinds. She was waiting for the 70% off sale, and she comes back.
Not only does she buy, but the other person doesn’t ring it for me, doesn’t even tell me that she came in. (I came in at 4 that afternoon.)
Nope. I find out later that WEEK that she had come in and my lady said ‘Oh, she did the order for you.’ I blinked at her and asked her who.
Needless to say, I’m out $500 some dollars for sales, I’m also out the $40 spiff (sales incentive) for selling her those blinds.
In fact, I handed the order to another lady in the department and said ‘I don’t have to look at this. She got one in one color green. Fern maybe, two in the storm moss and one blue.’ And you know what? I was right on the money.
So I approach my *cough* "manager" and get told ‘Well, split it’.
I do all the ground work for two months, lady comes in with her measurments, and she can keep the sale.
So I’m rather irritated at her. Even more than before when I approached her about my healthcare situation.
With the healthcare, I HAVE to maintain 35 hours to KEEP my insurance.
You know what she told me?
"You’re not gaurenteed full time."
All I was asking for was 8 weeks of full time and she can treat me like crap, which she does anyway.
I pulled out the fact that I was number 2 in sales for the whole summer, even working extra hours to make sure that department was in the correct order.
You know what I’m told?
"You’re inconsistant and this department isn’t a good ‘fit’ for you."
-__-
Alright, I have half the store buying their needs from ME, and yet, this isn’t a good fit?
I told her I was going to find a new job because she wasn’t willing to work with me.
That hurt me.
I get told to come to her for whatever reason, she’d help. Nice to know she’s a liar as well.
So after I put my application in several other places, she tells me that she’s willing to ‘work’ with me to get me to another department. Note that it took her TWO WEEKS to get the courage to talk to me about it. *snorts*
The Catalog Lady asked me last night if I’d like to work with her.
I told her as long as people do what’s asked of them and do their job, I have no problems.
See the same lady that stole my sale won’t do jack to keep the floor nice and ordered.
Nothing. Nada. Nil. Zilch.
This seriously ticks me off to the point I’m seeing myself strangle her. It’s a huge pet peeve, and I fully understand why two of the other girls left.
Keeping the department straight is what? A 30 Minuet project? Fixing the stockroom is harder, but still, it doesn’t take long because the girls and I actually DID all the ground work. All she’s gotta do is keep it up.
She won’t answer the phone. She won’t sort the media. She won’t stock. She won’t straighten. She won’t fix HER area back in the stock room. She won’t take care of people who DON’T have what we’re comissioned in. To the point of arguing with them. To their face.
I’m pretty sure, but isn’t the statment ‘The Customer’s Always Right’ and ‘Help Every and All Customers, Regardless Of Merchendise’ count here?
And for the record, the ONLY thing I’m doing is keeping the floor organized. (IE no empy holes and floor looks sales ready) I’m not stocking or sorting or colorizing, at least in my department. I’ll gladly help Housewares and Bedding/Bath. At least they pull their weight.
She’ll find out who actually does work in that department.
