Frustration

Well, other than the fact the Witch of Wisconsin decided to magically cut hours down to 15… (I’m SUPOSED TO BE FULL TIME ><) I’ve had a lot of time on my hands to play with things.

I’m trying to get back into writing, if not finishing Life of a Phoenix  and it’s driving me insane. I sit there and stare at the stupid little cursor… It’s driving me absolutely batty.

On the slightly brighter side, I started telling mom about things in writing that really peeve me. For starters I started talking about the use of ‘u’ in formal  English (and fanfiction, really)  as opposed to ‘you’. It takes, what, three more seconds to type out? I mean how hard is it to hit those two other keys? I’ve always viewd it as a lazy man’s version.

Of course then I got started on the dreaded ‘thru’ that everyone, and believe me, it seems like EVERYONE uses it in their writing.

I’ll say this right now:

It irritates the bloody hell out of me to see the English language so butchered that people seem it’s APPROPRIATE to use ‘thru’ instead of ‘through’ in formal writing. IE essays, school work, basically anything anyone else is going to read.

I started on my rant, and lo and behold, my FATHER decides he’s going to get involved and states, which is irritating, that I’m calling him ILLITERATE!

*blinking* I thought illiterate meant that you cannot read, write, speak or listen well. Not that you are using a ‘modern’ shortcut.

I never said it was totally unexceptable, but that it is not proper English to use that abbreviation in writing that is shown to people.

What flabbergasts me is that I’m not a paragon of proper English myself. Hell, look at my story notebooks. My statement is that no one but I see those books. I mean, it’s not like I’m posting a buch of scentances that not are not grammatically sound.

I’d be torn to shreads!!

I would have failed my college courses, my highschool courses, and laughed about behind my back at work if I used such an abbreviation.

I just cannot believe that my father is not making the connection that I MYSELF view it as a lazy way to write as opposed to calling someone illiterate.

In fact, I think that irritates the bloody hell out of me more than anything else.

Guess who’s daughter is going to be talked about at the coffee pot come Monday morning?

*highly irate*

PS I apologize if my spelling is total crap. I’m highly irritated at the moment and I’m sorry for a sub-par post.

PPS: He CLAIMS it’s appropriate to use in ‘techincal writing’ but as far as I was aware, ‘techincal writing’ is used for writing manuals and basically ‘simplifies’ the English language.
