“We need you”

Oye.

This past week we had elections for the Student Government Association.  I am completing my term as Chief Justice of the Court and planned to quietly walk away.  When I was at the polls as the SGA representative I started to get asked by people why I wasn’t on the ballot.  This wasn’t by just random students but people with positions of relative importance.  Senators, Club Presidents, the President of the Greek Council.

I have heard the same thing since we posted the results on Wednesday night.  "Josh we need you.  You are the only person who can stand up to the President."  Oh crap.  Thats seriously not cool.  My plan was to become a club president and enjoy the fairly low profile of being a president along with my job of hosting our campus coffeehouse.

Now I have to stop and think because I am worried that people are correct.  I had been asked to run for President as someone with the qualifications and now I am worried that if I don’t return I will be letting the students down.  The Student Government President yes has the qualifications for the job but looking at the people around him there are alot of yes men (and women) who will simply blindly go along with whatever he wants.  And that does worry me, along with many former Student Government people who are watching and I have noticed are trying to let their concerns be hidden because they want to just be students and not people who are being looked to for helping fix things here.  They hope someone else will do it and its simply not their mess anymore.
