*Duck when the shooting starts! **Day Job Edit**
Tonight I start filming on my first solo short film. I’m pretty psyched about it. We are filming the final scene first, because it’s the only scene in which I need both the actor and the actress. I figured I’d get the tough one out of the way. I feel completely unprepared but I’m ready to go. I’ve got to run by the store and get some last minute props and then I’m off to location. Should be fun, wish me luck.

As in not quitting my…
We did the filming last night. I ended up rewriting the scene because of some gusty wind and the low temp. I wrote it to take place inside. In hidesight in may have been a mistake. After filming we watched the footage and I realized something, I may be a good writer and I think I could be a decent director with some practice, but man I am a shitty cameraman. I was screwing up the lights and I was out of focus for a while (an issue I blame mostly on the camera) and I kept getting shots of the clock on the wall. So our 10 second scene shows a few hours passing on the clock. So the real test comes when I start editing and seeing if I can make it look good in editing. It is going to be a real chore. But I feel good about last night. I worked with some good people and we had a lot of fun. Lang was a huge help and I could not have done it without her, so thanks baby. She is totally getting Assistant Director (or assistant to the director as Jom Halpert might say)credit on this one. Two of my brothers were a big help too and they will get a little credit, but Lang was awesome even though she will down play her part in it all.
Good luck, baby! Of course, I’ll tell you that and give you the proper good luck sort of kiss when I see when I get there, but you know.It should be fun, provided it isn’t too cold and we don’t have to blow up too many balloons.Love,Assistant to the Director

You’re right, I will downplay my part. I ate most of the veggie tray and snapped a few times, though!I think you’ll do a great job editing it. And if it doesn’t work, they seem okay trying to shoot it again.

Ahh. The clock in the background you don’t think about until later. Well, some of the greatest films ever have little faux pas like that. Sounds like you had fun anyway, and Lang was a big help!

It’s awesome that you got started! I figure every artform has its rough draft stages. This is yours. And I am sure that filming this and editing it will help you do even better the next time.
