catchin up

I’ll never catch up. But here are snippets.

Last week in Austin, working with some lovely people. I have to admit I did not have high expectations of Texans, but I was happily proven quite wrong. Even though I had food poisoning one day (great for the diet, and I got lotsa sleep), I had a wonderful time working down there and want to go back.

It’s sleeting now.

Youngster is here, with a new man in tow. They are hoping to go to the St. Patrick’s day parade in NYC tomorrow. Good luck!

Lady K is home. We have been talking about internships, her future, etc. One day she lies on the floor depressed and moaning that she doesn’t want to be rich and famous (like her parents???@?), she just wants a job, any job, that is around nice people. So she doesn’t want to prepare for anything. Next day she is composing letters to apply for cool internships in the arts.

I took a day off yesterday and we went to Crosswicks and Allentown NJ. We dined in a german restaurant in a mill and visited all kinds of neat artsy stores (in Allentown. Nothing in Crosswicks but churches and a pizza parlor). We talked and talked and got lost on country roads and bought a neat new tablecloth and some cheese.

A story from Texas. The woman telling me the story has a 20 year old son, a dog, a black cat. The dog is always getting skunked outside because he thinks he’s trying to play with the cat, but is wrong. One Friday evening while the mother was still out the son saw the skunk and went out and whacked at it with a bat or something. Then he threw the body in a ditch by the backyard. He took his stinky clothes off, put them in a plastic bag and threw it, unclosed, in front of the washing machine. Then he went away for the weekend. It took her two hours to find the source of the stink.

One night in TX I was out to dinner. Of the four people at the table, two had raised pythons.
