Just as I discovered it was time to go to the venue for A’s band, I discovered I had sewn the zipper in backwards on K’s Christmas dress.
There are 33 messages on the answering machine and I’m afraid to listen to any of them because all I want to do is get this dress finished.
The venue was a martini/cigar bar in the next town over, South River, a very non chi chi working class town I love except for the antisemitism that is rather deepseated in the town’s Polish population. Lotsa bars. This one used to be a sports bar but the new owners bought it, closed it, spent a year renovating, and opened it up with its new personality. No cigars in evidence, thank goodness. A martini bar in South River is an odd concept. I wore a velvet minidress. There were guys at the bar yelling at a television playing a football game. My second chocolate martini was made with syrup.
The good part of all this was that the bar owner had told the band to get there 2 hours too soon and was having a private party so we couldn’t even get a drink, so A. and I went next door to a polish restaurant with an unmemorable name that starts with K and had a great polish dinner, which we will also have tomorrow night (cause it was huge).
Are you sure it wasn’t the dress causing the yells?
