Catchin up
Sledding into busy December without brakes. Tryin to make a dress for Lady K for Christmas (we picked out fabric and pattern in NY) and I devoted this weekend to it–wouldn’t answer phone or nothin. Then the machine broke. I looked up sewing machine repairs–there were only three, and the closest was this nice elderly man in South River (next town over) who does “old” machines, which he says were built better. He will look at mine tomorrow morning and see if he can give me hope.
When the machine broke I didn’t do any of the other million things I need to do. I just took a bubble bath and sulked.
Earlier in the week I was in Mississippi, my first time there. I had a presentation at Jackson State, which was fun, although a wee bit hairy at first because although I brought 3 copies of the powerpoint slides I left the information about where it was to be at home. I thought it was the hotel, but after a lot of panicky phone calls home–thank G-d for the cell phone–I promise to keep it charged from now on–someone back in Princeton told me that someone at the conference had left something at the hotel and was driving back and would give me a ride. Whew!
My connecting flights were in Dallas-Fort Worth. I have these observations: never book a connecting flight that leaves less than 45 minutes after your first flight comes in; there are some REALLY TALL men in Texas; jackrabbits can tie up an airport.
Doing another presentation this week, in NJ this time. I look forward to it. People on the outside think I’m brilliant.
Choir rehearsing like crazy, but haphazardly without the cantor. Did a run this morning, and we’ll meet again Wed. The 22nd is when we will sing the music, and everyone is hoping that she will be able to make it. Her next chemo is this Tuesday, so she’ll have almost 2 weeks to recover, as she does it every other week. One of our songs is in Yiddish which gives me a warm cozy feeling because I haven’t heard it since H’s parents sold their hotel in the Catskills. But other choir members are FREAKIN. Our generation did not learn Yiddish.
I really hope your Cantor makes the sing as she seems such a Leader for your Group. Must be something in the air as Cindy’s Choir Director also is undergoing treatmnt for Cancer
