Massive Ranting
Okay, so officially the temperature in Indy has gone to shit. It was not too long ago that we were shivering in the 50s and thinking, is summer ever gonna be here? And now, after a week or so of mild temperatures, it has arrived with a vengeance. Its now in the 90s and humid. Yuck! I was not expecting this until about August. Now dont get me wrong, I love hot weather as much as the next person pool season, woohooo! but this is ridiculous
I dont think I ever got around to writing about St Louis. It was so awesome! I can’t stop talking about it, lol…We got up early on the Saturday morning and drove it all in one shot; since it was just take 70 west from downtown Indy it couldn’t be any easier…The highway has an exit right at the riverfront so the first thing we did was go up into the Gateway Arch. That was really neat, I just wish the little tram to go up was a bit roomier – and the viewing area upstairs was tiny! They have a really neat museum/exhibition dedicated to the Westward Expansion, so that was fun to go through. That night we went to have dinner & to explore Union Station, and finally on to the mission that became finding our hotel. Phew! Sunday we went to see the Cardinals play the Nationals in what’s going to be the last season at Busch Stadium. We had to go see it before it gets torn down, now that the new stadium will open next season. It’s really neat to see the stadium being built, a small place in history….
Speaking of history, we went to find the Chain of the Rocks Bridge, which was part of the legendary Route 66. I’m fascinated by Route 66 (even though not too long ago I thought it was still an “actual” road – LOL!) In fact after we were done checking that out we went to find Ted Drewes Frozen Custard stand – also an old fave on 66! Mmmmm, if anyone decides to go to St Louis you have to check this place out and try one of their super yummy concretes – best dessert ever! To round out our road trip, we went to the Zoo and then toured the Budweiser brewery. There we got to see the Clydesdales and their stables, the beechwood aging tanks, and the hospitality room, where you get free samples! This was possibly the best tasting and freshest beer we have ever had, yay! I even got to be an Honorary Brewmaster, and I have the certificate to prove it ;p And what did I have to do to get it? Taste test more beer, wooohooo!
Anyway, aside from that, it’s been work work work. I’ve been trying even harder to find something new in the last week, but despite my finding some good opportunities, all I have been able to come up with are rejections. Just what I needed. It’s not like my current job doesn’t make me feel worthless enough. And just yesterday I got called on for a comment I made that was interpreted as being racist. One of my coworkers was being teased because she is pale, and I told her to stand up for herself by saying that in Elizabethan times, royalty was inside and rarely saw the sun, so they were pale, but the working class people in the fields were tan, because they had to be outside all the time. So she used that as a comeback against the girl who was teasing her (who happens to be black) and used my name in the comment, so the chick took MAJOR offense and said we were using racist remarks. WTF? I don’t think so, I am just bringing up a historical fact. I don’t even see myself as remotely racist! So it’s that kind of stuff that has pretty much set me off more than before. Grrr.
Away from work, I am trying to find value in some of my other hobbies. I have been slowly improving on my crochet skills, and have recently decided to start designing my own jewelry. I did this a long time ago, but now I want to do it seriously. Mostly I have been working on the designs, but buying all the tools has been expensive 🙁 I figured, I am going to do this the right way, so I’m not going to scrimp on supplies. So far I have actually made one prototype necklace and bracelet, and they came out pretty good. I botched the earrings though, so I will have to wait until I get more supplies from my mail order place. I’m very uspet about that, I should have had the foresight to order extras; I did for everything else but not for the one piece I busted. Double grrr.
So yeah, Bible study, crochet, jewelry making, and if I can ever find the time again, scrapbooking, are what’s keeping me sane. These personal projects give me a bit of pleasure and reward when other areas of my life (work) don’t give me any of that.
Oh and today, I was supposed to go to the “girly” doctor, and it was a new place I had never been to. My appointment was at 9AM, but after filling out my paperwork and a long wait they called me over and told me my appointment had been canceled. Triple Grrr! This has just not been my week. They had me speak to a manager but nothing could be done, they couldn’t squeeze me in. So I miss time off work and I have to reschedule a very important appointment a month from now. I really needed to ask some questions though, my abdomen has been feeling very swollen and hard recently, more than normal, and I am starting to get concerned. And for the first time I had cramps for three straight days AFTER my monthly visit, and that has never happened before. Not good. But not much I can do about it now, just wait. Story of my life, if only for once I could get what I need when I need it!!
St. Louis was awesome my love, far too short as well.
