So much to say…
So let’s start with the good news. Florida was awesome, only drawback was that the trip was too damn short. Four nights was certainly not enough to do all the things we needed to get done.
We landed Thursday night, had dinner, and went to go see my mom. That wasn’t fun because my father was there. I had not wanted Travis to meet him, but this time it was completely unavoidable. I had not seen my father in a long time, and to me, that is the best way. But this time I had to talk to him and pretend that he hasn’t hurt me or my mother. All for the sake of making sure that she doesn’t get hurt more by him, if that makes any sense. So we had to make this giant farce just to play the game….the meeting went as expected, maybe a bit better. It was awkward since my father doesn’t speak English well (as some racist assholes would say around here, that makes him ignorant) and Travis is obviously just learning Spanish. I tried to translate and did the best I could, but it didn’t go as smoothly as it had with mom. He thankfully had to leave for his night security job and we were left with mom. We went through a lot of the things I had left in Florida when I moved here to make the final decisions of the things I will keep and what will get thrown away. There were a lot of things I had forgotten I had, so it was nice to see them. But it was hard work. In the end we filled two small bags with stuff I needed to bring back on the plane, and several boxes to be shipped later, mostly my baseball memorabilia that couldn’t be brought up sooner. It was nice to see mom, but she seems so much older than the last time I saw her. I know she is 59 now, but I am still very, very worried about her. She looked so thin.
After that visit we headed back to our hotel – a Sheraton on the bay where we got upgraded to a “preferred guest” floor for free! – and changed to go out. Went to my old fave Sandbar and promptly ordered some Category 5 hurricanes. Mmmm, how I missed those! I remember the first time I had one it kicked my ass, then several good times in between, then the last time before moving to Indy it did absolutely nothing, and now it is a happy balance. Go figure. We danced for a while then went on to the Tavern for some cheap watered down beer. Ahhh, how that takes me back!!
Friday morning we hit the beach first thing, and let me just say if I could have stayed there I would have! I know Miami Beach isn’t as pretty as say Hawaii or something, but it is MY beach and I still wouldn’t trade it ;p I’m happy that I got some color, yay! As for the rest of our trip, it was sunshine, warmth, and baseball! We went to four baseball games in three days, one at Joe Robbie to watch the Marlins Reds game, and three at UMiami with the rivalry series against FSU. That’s the best! Friday they gave away a stadium replica and we got our two and even three extras, so we kept one for us, gave one to mom, and sent two as surprises to Katie and Ryan, since they could not make it to the ‘Light (Sidebar, they loved them and were so thankful! It was my way of saying, you guys rock). The last we are listing on eBay for profit, lol. So it was the perfect trip, except for that having to come back thing. We left Miami and it was mid-80s and sunny, then Indy was 40ish cold and rainy when we got back. Bleh. Add to that the record cold temps here the first few days of MAY and they’re lucky I’m still here…
Work…I didn’t get the events coordinator position. That was depressing, until I found out that they didn’t hire anyone. With the city’s budget situation in deep trouble, they are pretty much putting a hiring freeze on administrative personnel unless it is critical. This is not. So they schlepped the work to another girl who is already overwhelmed with her own responsibilities; they’re lucky if she doesn’t quit. How mcuh would that have sucked though – “we want to hire you, but we can’t?!” I guess it is better off this way. However, the mayor proposed budget reforms did not pass, so the state is going to take control of that. There is a bill waiting to be signed by our governor that will implement part of those reforms, notably the one that reorganzies the structure of my particular office.
So all of us could be laid off anyway, or none of us will, or anywhere in between. Most likely it is a middle-of-the-ground option but I am taking no chances. I am sick of the BS and of the lack of respect, so add the worry of losing my job and I am readier then ever to leave. I have started a more serious job hunt and once the right job comes along, it will be time to move on. No more of this government crap for me.
That said, I have job hunting to do. Good night.
I am here for you babe. god provides strength and will care for us, as you have told me so much over the past few weeks. You have been my rock, it’s my turn to be yours.

But you know when you’re at a place too long, then bad things happen, so it’s better to leave with things left to do. Does that make any sense? Boo FSU. Good luck with the job search.
