Mid April
I can’t believe the year is almost a third over now. Last I remember it was the middle of February and there was no end in sight to the cold weather. Now it is warm, 80s, and looks like it will stay that way. About time! In a couple days Travis and I are going to Miami to see Mom, to watch some baseball (okay, a LOT of baseball), and to celebrate my birthday. So beach-y-ness, here we come!
This weekend was just about perfect. On Friday Travis and I made three months, and then Saturday his parents and his sister and brother-in-law hosted our open house/reception for us! It was strange to do it three months after the wedding but it was the best time to do it, one because of the weather and two because we got to enjoy ourselves fully on both days. We had a bunch of people come out! This was fun because were able to celebrate with our friends, family, and fellow parishoners and not have to worry about impressing anyone. We came away like bandits too – we got a bunch of stuff off our registry, some $$$, and some gift cards. It’s hard to pick one thing that was a favorite, but the one that stands out the most is the pair of Purdue captain’s chairs we got! We had two whatever ones on our registry that we had liked, but a store partner of my father-in-law got those for us – super cool! So they will be making it to tailgates with us, hehehe.
In a way it was very bittersweet though. There were some people that we invited that, while we knew they most likely wouldn’t be able to make it, we felt that sending an invite was the right thing to do. It is just a manner of being polite and “hey, we are thinking of you and want you to share our special day”. Yet some couldn’t even extend the courtesy of a phone call or email saying, “no, we can’t go”. I don’t know about Travis, but that made me realize that some people really aren’t to be considered friends. That’s just uncalled for and blatantly rude. But if that’s what they show themselves as, then there is no reason for me to assume there is anything different within them. Excuses only last so long.
Work is still work, and right now my mind is in Florida and on my birthday. I will be having a small party at work tomorrow, and I have asked for ESPN MLB 2005 for PS2, and I should be getting it. Travis is still looking for full time jobs and still working as a temp grading tests in the meantime. It’s money. But we are paying the bills and such so all is well. I have been applying to different jobs, and once something comes up I will move on.
Anyway, I will write more when I get back from Florida. I have too much sun on the brain!
I am so lucky to share all of this with you!
