Procrastination at it’s best
43 days. Oh. My. God.
Yes, I have 43 days until I’m a married woman. I have 43 days to plan a wedding (b/c I’m a raging slacker who has put it off til this week). I have 43 days until I walk down the aisle and say I do to the man that I’ve been in love with for almost 7 years. 43 days until I can call myself his wife. 43 days until my ‘ever after’ (yeah, I left off the ‘happily’ b/c I’m a realist! (-;) 43 days, people. Oh. My. God.
Is it possible to be excited, scared, worried, freaked out, psyched, jumpy, intimidated and joyful all at the same time? Also, is it normal to have used that many words that mean the same thing in the same sentence? I’m losing my mind, at this point, ya’ll. 😉
I have managed to nail down some important details, though, so I guess that’s something. I chained Senor Joe to a chair the other night and made him help me w/ some planning. I only removed the duct tape from his (purty) mouth when he agreed to stop screaming foul at my forcing his help. 😉
Details we know/have taken care of:
My dress. It’s at the seamstress (a friend of my daughter’s mom who does ren fair stuff, so is handy w/ a needle and is only charging me a night of babysitting for her services). I had my fitting on Thursday and lemme tell ya, the numbers they have to take (measurements) are guarded lock and key in her home. Those are scary numbers.
The date. It’s set for September 6th at 4 p.m. We’ve known the September 6th part for a few months, but the time was up in the air until recently.
The flowers. I’ve fallen in love with blue hydrangeas and that’s what I’m pretty sure we’re going with. There’s some wiggle room, so far, on whether we’re going with live flowers or silk ones. My sister says she is good w/ silk flowers, so that may be the route we choose.
The colors. Chocolate brown and varying shades of blue. My favorite combination.
The “theme”. I hesitate to really say that, but the general idea is a 30’s Frank Sinatra, swing era, piano bar feel. Which should be interesting to pull off in our back yard… Think peacock feathers and highball glasses. 🙂
The music. See above. But I am putting this mostly in the hands of a very capable audio-phile friend of mine. I trust this person to do an OUTstanding job.
The location. Which should have probably gone up before the “theme"… eh. Anyway, we’re having the ceremony in the back yard framed by our two enormous pine trees. It’s very picturesque in my humble (and stubborn) opinion. The reception will be in our generous side yard. It’s a very good sized yard and we’ll have a tent from a family church and tables and chairs. Also, tiki (citronella) torches and possibly a small fire in the firepit. Lovely.
The girls’ dresses. We are going on Sunday to pick out dresses/ideas. Hopefully, that goes smoothly and then we should be done with that. Sunday will be the first time in almost a year that I’ve been able to get all 3 BFF’s in the same place at the same time.

Ok, I flaked out on writing this and it’s now 4 days later… which means I have 39 days until all the stuff should be done… -sigh-
Let’s see… I had a Girls’ Night In party Saturday night and was pleasantly surprised with one of the besties showing up with a bag o’ Bachelorette Party. I had the sash and little penises on straws and ‘Pin the hose on the Fireman’ game. It was good times. We went to bed VERY late, which is hard for me as old as I’m getting, but it was wonderful to see everyone. I had a few too many margaritas and paid for it for 2 days, but wonderful, I tell ya, wonderful.
Sunday we did the dress shopping thing. We all went up to the mall in Ft. Wayne and ate lunch, then attacked the mall. One of the girls, Jessee, is the consummate shopper among us, so she led the way. I think we were in, no less than, 10 stores. Most of them, we turned around and walked back out of due to lack of anything that resembles dresses that could be used. I truly thought that we’d have a better time of it than we did. Why would finding nice dresses in a chocolate brown be a hard thing?? Well, it kind of was. We had most of our luck in the big department stores of the mall I.e. Sears, Macy’s, JC Penny’s… but Jessee was actually the first to find hers in a little Maurices. It’s a halter pencil-dress in a satiny chocolate color. Lovely and absolutely PERFECT on her figure. She’s a curvy girl and she looks like a not slutty pin-up girl in the dress. We had to do a little convincing to make her believe it was nice, but it worked and she got it.. At JC Penny’s, we were nearing the end of the shopping excursion and a little bit disheartened, but Sara picked up a dress that had no tags and decided to try it on. It wasn’t perfect, as it, but a little taking in and a tack in the bust area to eliminate the boobage and it’s going to be great. Then we get up to the cashier and try to figure out what it’s going to cost… $15. She -had- to buy it.
I think I know what Yani (my maid o’ honor and lovely daughter) is going to wear but I have to do some digging for coupons and gift cards before I buy it. I really really can’t spend $60 on a dress she’ll wear once. I just don’t have it. But it looks wonderful on her.
Blu is a little more difficult for a couple reasons. Mostly, she’s very picky about what she likes and I truly want my girls to LOVE their dresses. Also, she’s extremely busty and it’s hard to find things that fit correctly without being a sack on her. I must say I’m glad, at times, to be my flat-chested self, instead of the other end of the extreme. But we have a good idea of what we’re looking for to put on her, so I think we can pull it off before the big day.
So the girls will be in Chocolate Browns with gold/bronze accents (jewelry, shoes, etc) with only Yani having a splash of blue in her dress (a little brooch with jade accents). My dress is Ice Blue (you’ve probably not seen pics of it yet, hmm.) and I love how they colors look together, so I’m happy with how it’s turning out.
I’m going today to get the invitations officially printed off. I then need to do some detective work and get addresses to send them to!! -sigh- At any rate, that’s where we are on the wedding.
If anyone notices I’m forgetting something, please(!!) give me heads up so I can get on it.. 😉
I can’t even think this morning of what else I should talk about. My life is currently as follows:
1. Normal stuff I.e. Feed kids, clean house, shower, repeat
2. Wedding stuff
3. Blank out hard core to refresh myself ie. Read books, write blogs, etc.
So yeah… how’s ya’ll?

Do you have your food all figured out? Don’t put that off to til the last minute. I speak from experience! LOL! I’d say go with the silk flowers. I used real. What a waste of money! ($461!! and I only used daisies!) Buy your thank you cards now. Then you won’t put it off after the wedding to get them done. Um… that’s all I can think of at the moment.

Yes, the food is probably the most important part of the day – other than the bride and groom, of course! ::laughs:: Oooh, I love hydrangeas, what a great choice.

I have never had any desire to plan weddings/do any of that girl stuff. It seems so hectic and plus I’m really bad planner. My wedding would be a disaster. I would leave it the in hands of someone else. Reading this entry has confirmed my worst fears. So good luck! For some reason I thought you an Joe were already married. Even though I think I already knew you weren’t. How is your book going?
