Breakfast in bed

Well, yesterday was Mother’s Day (as you all well know). I wasn’t expecting much because the kids are still pretty young and Joe doesn’t do things that involve surprises and presents very well. 🙂 BUT here’s how the day went:

I was woken up at about 9:30 by the two oldest. Yani had a little notebook in her hand.

"What would you like for breakfast, ma’am? We have your choice of eggs, waffles, oatmeal and toast."

I laughed sleepily for a number of reasons. One, she’s 11 going on 20 and it’s cute, two – I never eat breakfast; it’s just not something I do (I always have a bellyache if I do). And, of course, three little Miles was bouncing around on the bed saying good morning with NO intention of being the good little helper who stands quietly and professionally! 🙂 I told them that waffles and eggs (OM of course) sounded great. A few minutes later, they brought me a cup of coffee and said I had to stay in bed! 🙂 Ok, ok, I did. I snuck down really quick to pee, but hurried back up. Joe stopped me in the bathroom (it’s still weird that he doesn’t mind coming in there when I’m peeing… probably will be for a while) to tell me that he tried to tell the kids that I don’t eat breakfast, but they were having none of it.

So about 10 minutes later I had my breakfast in bed with both of the older kids sitting with me staring hungrily at it! 🙂 Evidently, they were so determined to make my breakfast, they hadn’t eaten yet! I only ate probably half of it and let them finish it off. *sigh* Perfect example on a Mother’s Day, huh? 🙂

Then we got ourselves up and sat downstairs while the baby ran rampant around the house. About 1 o’clock we started getting ready to go see my mom. The general (mom) said that she was "requesting" we be there; which meant you WILL be here! We got there about 3:30 and just basically hung out until about 6:30. She made green beans, potatoes and sausage for dinner (always YUM!) and we chatted. Joe was very good. He didn’t fall asleep at all, although he tried at the table once or twice. I swear that man can fall asleep ANYwhere ANYtime! He ALWAYS falls asleep at family gatherings. I bet he will at our reception! 🙂

Speaking of the reception, we’ve set a date! I was thinking about all the things that are factors in our date and decided we really need to get a move on before it’s too late! Robbie (my bro) will be home sometime in the end of August/beginning of Sept and Chrys (other bro) is leaving for basic Sept 12th, so we were pretty limited on when we could plan for. Soooo, it’s Sept 6th. 🙂 His little brother, Phil, has pre-enlisted, but we don’t know ANYthing yet on when or if he’s leaving. We just kind of have to hope for the best! 🙂

I started working on the invitations on Saturday.  I think they’re REALLY nice. We decided to go with black and white so that the printing costs would be less, but it hasn’t really messed with how pretty they are. If i can figure it out, I’ll post a copy of them! 🙂 We are still working on the where’s though. There’s a little park here in town (I haven’t told you this yet! We moved! I LOVE LOVE LOVE our new house; more on that later) that is super cute and it has a pavilion and an outdoor fireplace and lots of space, so I think we’re going to look into that. It’s still pretty warm in Indiana in Sept, so I’m not worried about the weather much, since it’s also pretty dry. 🙂 We want to keep it really simple, too, so the ceremony will be small ( only about 50-80 people) and the reception a little bigger (maybe 100). We decided to go very untraditional with pretty much all of it. I’m not wearing white, of course, but I’ve decided on a different dress than the one I wrote about a few months ago. I found a gorgeous tea length ice blue number that I HAD to have. It needs some alteration b/c it’s MUCHO too big, but that’s easy enough. Joe doesn’t want to wear a tux, so I think we’re going to find him a great suit and just buy it outright. Makes more sense to our fiscally responsible minds to own something like that rather than just rent a tux! 🙂 (haha you like how i pretended we are SO fiscally responsible!?) I still need to gather the bridesmaids and get their dresses figured out and Joe needs to do the same (w/ suits not dresses) for the groomsmen. The reception is going to be a carry-in. Yeah, yeah, I’m sure that sounds gauche or something, but look- we’re poor! And we have lots of family with lots of cooking ability and we are SO taking advantage of that. We don’t want gifts – bring food! 🙂 So we’re doing a carry-in and requesting that people bring their favorite dish and a copy of the recipe to add to our kitchen! See, it’s kind of cute! I need to see how much it would be to rent a dance floor. It could be do-able. Or maybe we just turn the pavilion into the dance floor after the ceremony… i don’t know yet. For flowers, I think we’re going with lilies. I want the whole affair to resemble a really sexy Rat Pack vibe. Great music (no pop!), great outfits, cocktails, food, dancing, the whole shabang!

Ok, I’m typed out. I just sat here for 3 minutes trying to figure out what to type and came up with nothing! 🙂

Next entry, the new house, the move, the damn queen size bed. 🙂
