I am allergic to food
I fasted 3 days and never felt better!
After getting past the hunger and the headache, I was fine. I felt a little weak, but mostly I felt great. I had energy and could think clearly!
I decided to go ahead and eat Saturday. I noticed as the day went on that I had congestion in the back of my throat and I found that strange because it seemed so out of the blue. Saturday night I had an asthma attack. I know I ate something that I was allergic to. I had to take my inhaler. My face was all blotchy and the skin on my face felt rough. It is still blotchy today, but not as bad. Maybe because I hadn’t eaten for 3 days the reaction was stronger. I don’t know. But, yeah, now I feel kinda yukky again.
I think it was the lasagne, because it was store bought. I am sure it had soy in it, and I am allergic to soy. I did not eat any more of that lasagne.
My allergic reactions can be severe. I was very allergic to many things as a small child, and still have to be so very careful. I can usually tell if I have eaten an allergen because the back of my throat and my ears way inside will itch. Weird, huh? And if it gets too far, it feels like I am kind of muffled, like I am outside looking in at myself. I have gone into shock in the past (peanuts) and have been hospitalized and had to have epinephrine. I am supposed to carry an epi pen with me, but I don’t. They always expire on me, and they are expensive. I am just very, very careful. Soy will get to me, but has never sparked a severe reaction as long it was just something like soy bean oil. Isolated soy protein will make me react so I cannot have most Campbell’s soups. Why they put soy protein in things is beyond me, but I guess they have reasons. I read the ingredient labels of EVERYTHING I eat. If I can’t read the label, I don’t eat it, usually. If I am really hungry and feeling daring, I will take a tiny, tiny bite and keep it in my mouth for a while. If no reaction, I very slowly eat a little bit at a time seeing if I feel any reaction coming on. It is scary to me. I never ever ever eat home baked goods unless I bake them myself or know it came from a box or something like that. I feel bad if I offend someone, but I can’t take the chance.
So, to say I am not an adventurous eater is an understatement.
Eating out I take my chances, and I usually do OK. I order something relatively boring or something I have tried before and I know is “safe.” I love Mexican food, but I cannot eat fast Mex food as the beans get all over everything, and they just slap stuff together. Even if there are no beans in it, it will have traces of bean on it. One time I was very hungry and got something at Taco John’s. I like the taste of Taco John’s. But I had a bad reaction to something there… I think it was the burrito I snarfed down. No more for me. I will still eat the potato ole’s, and I love their crunchy chicken, but that is all I will try. Boring but safe. And even at that, I am sure there is trace of soy on everything, but it is not enough to cause a reaction.
I think it makes me have more anxiety and depression to be exposed to allergens. I was in such good cheer and felt so good when I was fasting. Too bad food tastes so good and I have to have it to survive.
I have decided to start being more careful about what I eat.
I desperately want to go get a cappuccino in the morning becuase I haven’t had one for over a week, but I think there is some soy in it, or the coffee itself is a mild allergen. I maybe just have an intolerance to coffee. It just makes me feel yukky, it doesn’t have the same itchy blotchy allergic response.
I am also allergic to environmental allergies and a lot of antibiotics. Bummer.
I am extremely thankful tho that my kids don’t have allergies. My son has a little bit of allergy trouble upon occasion and gets stuffy and gets a cough, but if he takes Allegra every day for a few days it is completely gone, cough and all. Dau has what the eye dr called subclinical allergies, which is probably due to genetics. They are there, but just not severe.
I prayed a LOT when I was expecting them because I did not want them to have allergies or asthma. First of all I didn’t want them to suffer from it, but also I didn’t think I would handle it well. If they had an asthma attack, I would too!
Well, I will just have to be careful. Sigh.
faith hope and love, but the greatest of these is love.
Yikes, allergies are the worst. Darling Fred has had severe allerigies since he was tiny, not to any foods though. Certain medications, hay, grass, mold, mold spores, dust, dustmites, tree’s, pollen, that kind of stuff. Has had exercise induced asthma his whole life. 4 years of weekly shots did help him. I hope you feel better.
