Pandemics & Human Nature

I’ve got to say I’m pretty unimpressed by human beings. I have been skeptical of them, fairly negative due to them and overall wary of motives of said beings.

With that being said, it is no wonder that I’m focusing on the selfish, my life matters over yours mentality that occurred after a novel coronavirus infected 2020.

It isn’t cute to buy every canned item at the store and all the toilet paper. It’s not cute to tell people to stop worrying about a virus that has infected 3,000 (plus all the undocumented cases) of Americans in the US and killed about 60 so far. It’s not cute not to offer to check on your neighbors if you live in neighborhoods where the elderly, anxious, immune compromised might be afraid of going out.

It’s just literally not okay to be an asshole during these times. Teachers at my school said they need to go get ammo or buy a gun after stocking up on supplies.

Are you planning on shooting people with the virus or the jerks who may start looting your things? At that, I do say to calm down.

True colors are fairly ugly during these times and I am looking for people who are being kind. I posted on the Neighborhood App that my husband and I are willing to go shopping or run errands for anyone. It made me feel better.

I am fully capable of being a kind human being in the right conditions. I won’t take all the toliet paper either.

Well said. I pulled my autistic son and myself into the coccoon of our home. I’ll have groceries delivered or I’ll do pick up. I’m not being evil. I take what we need for several days and don’t hoard anything. I’m kind to people I encounter. I am encouraging to the fearful. We’re in this together and some folks will realize it much later when they are in need and nobody wants to help them. Hang in there.
