Working My Way Up the Panic Ladder
Stayed home today to stupid-vise the removal of part of my floor. I knew what they were going to do. We discussed it earlier this week. But knowing it is not living it. They are a very professional crew. They came in, the worked, they cleaned. They yes ma’amed me and Ms. Wolfed me. They were polite and would chit-chat if I talked to them. But with all of these positives…
There are huge gaping holes in my floor now. The hall floor is non-existant. There is an enormous chunk out my bedroom, one spare bedroom and the living room. There are two tornado-strength fans creating a wind tunnel in my hall and a power sucking de-humidifier chugging along noisily in the middle of the living room.
I was fine all day while they were working. They pulled up floor that had a very earthy smell of wet/rotting wood. They discovered a tree frog in one corner and a colony of ants under the floor in one bedroom. None of it phased me until they left. No sooner had the crew leader told me that I could lock up ma’am and sorry we inconvenienced you today ma’am…. than I began to flip out. I got sick to my stomach and started pacing from room to room. What a dork!
And to top it off, they sent me an estimate – to my aol e-mail address but I can’t get it. I have my e-mails forwarded to my cell phone and they are ALWAYS both on my cell and in my mailbox on the computer….except this one. It’s only on my cell phone. Have you ever tried to read a 10 page pdf file on a Blackberry screen? What’s up with that?! How the hell am I going to get it…….grwwwl. A blasted project to figure out. UGH.
I am OK now. OK except for the fact that I am living in a wind tunnel, that is. The dogs seem singularly non-plussed, so I guess I won’t worry. Early night tonight – nite all!
Goodness – don’t fall in!

Oh boy! I don’t like the sound of that wind tunnel. I’ve heard it rumoured that it’s winter on your side of the planet?! At least the crew are competent and polite; I imagine it will all be completed fairly quickly.

Your dogs are utterly perplexed? By the wind? Are they cocking their heads to the side like Nipper? (You remember Nipper, yes?) Cute. 🙂 Please tell me they took the tree frog outside and let him find a new home.

Reading this has made me feel so cold! It’s freezing here and imagining the wind tunnel has just made me freeze up all over again.
