Kumquats Rule

What to do with your weekend?  Go to the 14th Annual Kumquat Festival, of course!

Sis and I happened onto this festival last year I think and really enjoyed it.  Very small – covers about 6 blocks in downtown Dade City, FL.  So…. when it popped up again – off we went!  We really wanted to see the Kumquats!  What?  You don’t believe two grown women can get excited about teenie tiny little citrus fruits that are a mixture of sweet and sour?

All right.  I’m busted.  We really wanted a piece of Kumquat Pie.

We got started later than I’d hoped and the weather was alternately overcast, drizzling, raining…. but we managed to dodge the water drops and make a run around the festival and get some pie!  Chickie and Aniah went with us, so it was Ladies Day Out!  So nice to actually have Chickie go somewhere with us again.  Usually she just looks at me like I’m insane.  Of course, I may be insane, but I like it.

I bought a Kumquat Tree!

Yep.  It was easier to carry Aniah than the tree.  lol  Let me explain about the tree.  When I was growing up, nearly every other house on every single block had a Kumquat tree.  Now, you NEVER see one.  I miss Kumquat trees.  Not the Kumquats, so much.  Their particular taste is not one of my favorites.  However, Kumquat PIE is da bomb!  So…if I get my little tree transplanted and manage not to kill it…..YUMMMMM.

On the way home we stopped at Cracker Barrell to eat.  Not Aniah’s first restaurant experience…..but the first where she was able to actually sit up in a high chair at the table!  I was quickly reminded of the joys of tiny tots in restaurtants…. *grins*

I wasn’t so worn out by the end of the day….but apparently Chickie and Aniah had had ENOUGH!

They slept all the way home.  Guess since Grandma outlasted the "youngsters", Grandma’s still got it!  Now if I can just keep it..

You still got it, Sunshine! That’s a lovable lookin’ Lady holding her granddaughter. Have a Kumquat in the back yard. Don’t care for the taste either. If you ever have a key lime festival, try that. It’s also too sour but it makes a darn good pie! There must be a connection between Kumquat, Key Lime & Rhubarb.

Ah…..such a cute little baby…tree. And an absolutely adorable granddaughter! Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time. I have seen kumquats but I don’t think I’ve ever tasted one.

I love how in that first picture Chickie and Aniah have the same quizzical eyebrow expression!

Cumquats look so pretty on the tree. (But they aren’t one of my favourite fruits for taste, either.) I hope your tree grows well for you. Lovely photos; that grandbaby is a real sweetie. (But you know that already.)

My gosh she’s grown! I hate when they do that! 😉 I’ve never tried a kumquat. Maybe I’ll pick up one at the store just to see.

Aniah is really cute!!!

In that picture, Chickie is STILL looking at you like you’re crazy. . . but on location! *snickers* Are kumquats really citrus? Because I wanted to try some, and if they are citrus I can’t, and that makes me sad. Well I can try some, but I have to be prepared for an allergic reaction, as tends to happen with orange citruses.

never had a kumquat. Never had the nerve to try one.

I’ve never had kumquat pie but it looks yummy! Baby is adorable, of course. And New Mama has a right to be tuckered out. With a smile…

What fun! I hope your kumquat grows for you. Aniah looks like she enjoyed the restaurant and your daughter looks as if she is enjoying motherhood.

Adorable sleepyheads there. I think it’s been three years since I planted our loquat (hey, it’s a quat). Nothing edible except maybe for the birds, but that’s good enough for me.

see now I’m jealous of Aniah as I haven’t been to Cracker Barrel in 9 years!

I guess I never realized kumquats looked like oranges or tangerines! The granddaughter is absolutely adorable! Us Grandmas, WE’RE da bomb!
