Soy La Maestra

Yes, I am!  I AM the teacher!!  I can even say it in two languages now!  heh

What triggers this outburst?  Well – I am now taking a course in "Spanish for the Workplace" aimed at teachers.  So……"Hola, y’all!"

What’s been going on since my headache??? Let’s see…updates….hmmm….

The school year is half over.  Wow – that went fast!  The legislature is messing with the school system yet again (anyone surprised?).  Next year we will change from 5 classes a day to 6 or 7.  Back to the way it was when I was a student.  Everything old….is now new.  A new career and technical requirement has been added to middle schools.  While I personally think the reasons for it are ridiculous…..it does mean job security for me since my certification is one of the few that are "authorized" to teach this new and wondrous class.  Being the psycho control freak that I am….I have also managed to get myself included in the group writing the curriculum for this new course for the county.  At least it won’t TOTALLY suck.  After all, the parts I write will be smashing!  *grins*

I managed to get sick, sick, sick for the first week of Christmas break.  I do need to insert a shameless commercial plug here, however.  Zicam is the best!  A co-worker introduced me to it when I got sick and boy did it help me to be able to continue to function and even – gasp – to recover more quickly than normal!  I now worship at the altar of Zicam.

Young Stud came home for Christmas.  He only stayed 4 days, but it was such a joy to have him here.  I really miss him.  He brought the grand-dogs with him.  I had 4 rambunctious 50+ pound dogs sharing the house with us two-leggeds.  It was fine with me, but I do believe it may have over-stressed the guy who cam to repair my air-conditioner the day after Christmas.  Yes – I said air-conditioner.  It’s still in the 70s – 80s here.

But I digress – This year’s "theme" at Christmas was games – I bought several for all the "children" and we had a lot of fun playing them.  I love it when I do something right!!

Christmas was very good for me.  Relatively low stress for a change and I got wonderful gifts as well!  I got THREEEEEEE more pairs of those wonderful, ugly shoes – CROCS.  Here comes another shameless commercial plug – they are AWESOME!  I have leg and foot problems which used to result in my legs and feet aching at the end of the day.  It’s damn near impossible to sit on your butt in front of a classroom of middle school kids and teach.  You GOTTA be on your feet.  These shoes allow me to stand all day.  And when I get home – I can still move, rather than collapsing in a heap on my bed as I have been doing.  I prostrate myself before the Goddess of Crocs!

Much too soon – vacation was over and I was back at work.  I love my job – but that doesn’t mean I don’t secretly wish to be independently wealthy!

The annual spaghetti dinner is coming up – and my hydroponic garden is to be planted next week I hope.  There is a carnival to plan and classes to teach.  Places to go and people to take care of.  And – of course – Sims to be manipulated!  (This is the most addictive game I’ve ever played, darn it all!!)

So yes – I am fine.  I find that when I don’t update regularly, it gets harder and harder to get back here as other things pile up.  My loss – cause I miss you all very much and still keep you in my thoughts and prayers – even when I am not ‘here’.

What else?  Oh yes – fireworks in the street on New Year’s Eve….

And now off to begin catching up with all of you – who I hope to find living life well and enjoying it!

I don’t see any men in kilts! >:-< However, I do see lots of dogs, and that's almost as good. HAPPY NEW YEAR, P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Good to see you writing again. I’ve missed ya!

I am so glad to see an update from you!!! Have you seen the super cool crocs where the holes are shaped like Mickeys? Total awesomeness!!! :o)

January 6, 2007

tried on one pair of crocs. they didn’t fit. never tried any others. I wouldn’t be able to wear them at work anyway I think.

Been thinking about you, so good to see your name all lit up.. Busy, busy, glad to hear all is well with you.. Happy New Year sweetie, xoxo

Oh, it’s so good to see an update from you – I was beginning to worry. Why do school systems keep changing their patterns? Ours is also going through major restructure, for no good educational reason that I can perceive. (I can see lots of good educational reasons for NOT doing it. But I’m no longer in the system, so am not directly affected. I’m certainly indirectly affected; good friends keep complaining bitterly to me, and at length.

omg. is this really you? back from the… glad to hear you had a good holiday season…

January 6, 2007

I’m living, and I refuse to commit myself beyond that. With a tired smile…

January 6, 2007

Glad to find you doing a post. The reasaon why the top dogs in the school system change things must be soothing their conciences by doing SOMETHING for a change

You’re always so busy this time of year! Oy. I speak Spanish very well and I am so excited about it. I live in an area where there are a lot of ESOL kids. I’ve decided that when I am finally teaching, it’s my biggest hope that I can help my students teach each other their native languages! Tres fun!

January 6, 2007

Spanish is a beautiful language. I had three years of it and wish I had taken more! Look at the doggies!!!!! (that was my digression caused by four-legged cuteness distraction) It IS good to have an update from you!! Happy New Year!

Lovely to read you again – I’d been away for even longer than you, so I didn’t realise you hadn’t been around. Anyway… it’s so good to read that you now have job security; it’s the same in the UK, ‘careers’ and ‘functional skills’ are the new ‘passwords’ to get jobs in schools. What is Zicam? What are Crocs exactly?

January 7, 2007

I’m glad you are doing so well and that you had a great holiday. I know several people who swear by crocks. I wanted to try some but the store didn’t have any in my size. Boo. Snarl. Hiss. I hope the rest of your school year is wonderful.

January 7, 2007

Looks like you had a very nice Xmas. It’s always nice to see your pics! 🙂 I have 2 pairs of crocs too. Love ’em. Around here they’re only good for summer though. School year is half over already? Where is the time going? I swear!!! (a lot) *LOL*

January 7, 2007

I have heard so much about those shoes – I am on my feet NONSTOP 8-10 hours a day and when I get home my tootsies are so sore. Maybe I’ll give them a try. We’ve been having the same kind of weather here!

January 7, 2007

Happy dogs, happy feet, and Happy New Year! It’s great to see you back.

January 8, 2007

January 10, 2007

The dog pic is too funny! It’s good to hear all is well in the house of Zicam, Crocs and Espanol. Happy New Year, Wolfie Mama!

January 10, 2007

Dang it, I have been resisting the Call of the Crocs for years because they are (and I’m sorry, I don’t mean to be insulting, but I think I can freely state without being to offensive that they ARE, indeed) so Uggggggggggggggggggly. But . . . I keep hearing how comfortable than are . . . and I tried a pair on . . . and now I am tempted to try it out. I have such problems with my feet and knees, and, and, and . . . Dang you! :o) Would LOVE to see pics of the hydroponic garden!

Those dogs do fill up a house don’t they? Keep well now, ok.

January 11, 2007

ryn: I guess I’ll have to try them, then. One good thing is that there IS no such thing as “too ugly” in Portland! 😀 Thank you for the support. I hope you’ll post pictures of the goatskin-pants dancing soon; hopefully the ‘human’ sacrifices will not be necessary, but we should probably still stand by. Seriously – thank you.

January 11, 2007

Also: Good LORD. What on earth had I been drinking when I left the note about the Crocs? I due no the differents between to and too and two and tu, I sware. Also, they not than. I should NEVER go back and reread my old notes.

January 11, 2007

so glad that your back missed you much, glad that family is doing good and well as you. Lael

Thanks for the update. You sound happy with all your activities. I canÂ’t think of anyone IÂ’d rather help write the curriculum for the new required class. So youÂ’re doing a hydroponic garden. My nephew in California is into that. Wishing you loads of success and tons of herbs and veggies.
