Summer Flies By…

Where has the wolfie grrrl been?  Great queston.  Wish I knew!  Seems like just yesterday that I wrote my "School’s Out"!!!! entry.  And really – in WFT (wolf fantasy time), it is just one day later.  However, since most of the rest of the world do not operate on WFT, it’s time I caught up!

The day after school let out was our post-planning day.  Post-planning.  Self-explanatory, right?  Maybe for everyone else, but can anyone guess what that meant for me?  Oh I knew you could!  You guys are the best!  Yep.  I was in the kitchen.  We had a faculty lunch to celebrate the end of the year.  I did not have to do the prep cooking – that was done by one of the other teachers.  HOWEVER, they neglected to consult with super wolf – and there was NOWHERE NEAR enough food.  And then some fool sold more tickets to the luncheon.  Let me just say that this will not happen again on my watch.  You see, there is are reasons I have become an unfettered control freak!

The very next week, I was off to four days of training.  It was a WONCERFUL training.  I learned so much…and got my OWN PERSONALIZED chef jacket.  Now I look like Emeril’s twin.  Except that I have boobs.

The dawning fo the next week found me teaching at our summer "camp" at school.  I gotta say, it was very low stress and only half days, so not bad.  However, it did largely occupy three weeks of my summer.  The last day was a wonderful field trip to Cypress Gardens.  What do you think – did they have fun??

On camp afternoons, I was busily writing curriculum for the county.  Go CURRICULUM!  I finished that a week or so after camp was out.  OH WAIT!!  I forgot to mention that also during those 3 weeks of camp, I attended two different training sessions in the afternoons.  (I’m sorry – what was that you said?  Teachers get the summers off?? HAH!!)

At some point in the middle of all that, one of my favorite teachers got married in Winter Haven, so I was off to Winter Haven for the weekend!  BIG wedding!!!  The bride is from Sri Lanka and the groom a Louisiana back-water boy… so the mix of traditions was a hoot!  Lots of teachers went, so we had fun.

After spending a couple of days in total collapse, I decided it was time for a little fun.  We went to see fireworks on the 4th of July.

Sis and I went to a creative writing workshop at a nearyby nature preserve.

And Daddy dearest and I went back towards Winter Haven to visit an airplane museum.  He had loads of fun…and I am never ceased to be amazed by how knowledgeable he is about every dang thing!  He’d see a plane or an engine and begin telling me about it.  Then I’d wander over and read the museum’s official blurb on said engine or plane….and he had told me true on every last bit of it – and in most cases he told me MORE than the museum blurb.

I bought a new digital camera and have been have a BLAST with that – much to everyone around me’s annoyance.  XCan you tell by this picture laden entry?

What else?  Oh yes.  One of Chickie’s friends from when we lived in Atlanta came to visit.  What a beautriful young lady she has turned into!  I enjoyed seeing her.  No, she didn’t stay with us, she was on a family vacation, but I did get to visit a bit!

Did I mention the entire day I spent (without pay) as part of the search committee interviewing candidates for our new assistant principal?  How could I forget THAT?

So…..next week I have two days of meetings to get ready for the NEXT week when we go back to school.  And one full day of another training.  I need to prepare my presentation for the county Professional Day….And then……my summer is freakin’ OVER!  How did that happen?

The bright spot in going back to school….we will most likely be getting a 10% raise!  It has to be approved by the union and the school board, but those are largely formalities.  And this year I will be eligible to do insane amounts of paperwork to prove I am exceptional so that next year I can get another 5% performance pay raise…I may get up to poverty level yet!

And now I am off to start catching up with everyone…though I’m sure that will take me a while!  Happy fall everyone!

This is SO typical of a teacher’s summer! LOL I remember all that stuff.

July 13, 2006

You need a vacation from your vacation!

July 13, 2006

Wow, what a busy vacation you’re having; your last noter’s comment is right on the money. 🙂 It is wonderful to see an update from you.

I always wondered what teachers did in their holidays! Hugz

I Knew you were too busy having fun to bother with diary stuff, Sunshine. That 15% annual raise will be 16 times your present salary in 20 years, or 4 times in 10 years. With the Govt’s penchant for spending our kid’s inheritance that might still be below the poverty level.

*waves hello at you* happy summer, teacher-lady!

Damn, what a bummer, not even a day by the pool with a useless but fun book? I hope you can find just one day this summer.

July 13, 2006

If you would just get off your butt and do something now and again maybe your summer wouldn’t lag on forever. LOL

My neice, the teacher really enjoyed her month of teaching summer school. Now she has the month of July off to play.

YAY for raises!!!!!

July 14, 2006

Phew…haha man that’s a good summer. 😀

July 14, 2006

Wow. You’re always very busy. Congrats on the pay raise. I was surprised by your remark about going back to school already. School starts here around Labor Day. Teachers report about a week before the kids do. It doesn’t seem at all fair to have school during the sweltering month of August, but I hope you have a great, great year.

July 17, 2006

Hmmm…well, it ain’t a proper vacation I suppose, but it actually sounds like it’s been really fun. Your camera is awesome…the pics look great! Fall?! From the land of 95 degrees for a week (much like your land, I’m sure), just let me say: I WISH!

July 20, 2006
