You Can Only Go So Low….and then?

And then somebody picks you up!

One of the language arts classes had the students write an essay….My Favorite Teacher at XYZ School.  I was delighted that a couple of students had chosen MOI to write about!  Today I got the essays in my mail box…. and I want to share one.  I am so tickled.

This little girl was arrested over the summer for some very violent behavior.  Today’s buzz word is "anger management" issues I believe.  She has a BOAT load of problems.  Just think "bad home life".  Whatever comes to your mind – yep.  She’s probably got that problem.  She is loud, abrasive, aggressive, beligerant and not an easy child to warm up to.  This, then, is THAT little angel’s letter:

My favorite teacher is Ms. Wolf.  Because she’s a fun teacher.  She helps me when I have a problem.  Also she’s a very nice teacher.  But now I’m going to tell you why all this is true.

Ms. Wolf is a fun teacher.  I love going to her class third block.  She always makes ig fun, even when we have to do book work.  Like when we cook and play around, when me and this one boy Andrew play around and argue.  Ms. Wolf is there to make ig funny.  One day this boy was trying to make fun of me and Ms. Wolf told him to stop.  Ms Wolf she’s funn she can make you laugh.

Ms. Wolf helps me when I have a problem.  Like what had happen over the summer.  When I came back she found out.  Ever sence she’s been trying to keep me out of trouble.  Like when I get mad or upset and want to fight somebody Ms. Wolf is there to calm me down.  I like having Ms. Wolf around to help me.  When I get mad at Andrew Ms. Wolf is the one who tells me to calm down.

This is why Ms. Wolf is my favorite teacher.  All these things help me but only when I’m around Ms. Wolf.

And so…..I am reminded that I DO make some small difference…and I find the strength to get out of bed for one more day.  The sun rises and sets….and Ms. Wolf does too.

isn’t it a warm and wonderful feeling when you are told in these ways that you do indeed make a difference in someones life?

November 15, 2005

The chorus of voices who would say the exact same thing would probably deafen you if they all spoke at once. Yay you.

November 15, 2005

To touch their lives in such a positive way is a gift. You are a terrific teacher.

November 16, 2005

Ms Wolf is a hero in my eyes. She has the patience with the kids most other teachers have given up on already.

November 17, 2005

you are a teacher that will be remember by her students. And it sounds like for a lot remembered in a very good way.

November 17, 2005

How nice !!

November 18, 2005

I prefer the “troublemaker” myself. The others get lots of help and attention. Not many successes but oh, how wonderful, when they occur. Thank heaven for teachers like you. Hope this makes up a tiny bit for the lack of respect and pay you get. You will never know all the impact you have had in this world. Blevins told me you were special. As always, she is right.

November 18, 2005

How wonderful. And when she’s old and grey, she will still remember you and smile. I think that’s the best part.
