It’s All Better From Here!
Where, oh where to begin? Hmmmmm… let’s see…I’ll save my usual whining about being tired and unable to catch up. It’s beginning to sound too much like a theme song. Lalalalalallllllllllaaaaaaaaaa!!
This week has had it’s challenges though. Yes indeedie.
Tuesday morning, around 2 a.m., Sis woke me up. My first thought was that Chickie had done something ultra-annoying – possibly bordering on illegal. Chicke occassionally has these brain lapses and I tend to sleep through them. SIS, however, does not. However, this was not a brain lapse moment. Sis had chest pains and a numb arm – would I drive her to the hospital? I jumped up and got going.
The hospital was great. Paid immediate attention to SIs’s symptoms – took her right in. I sat in the tiny waiting room cause they were cleaning the BIG waiting room. I was waiting. Then a very old man with a boatload of medical problems came to sit next to me and my eyes commenced to watering. Poor old fella – among all the problems he had, I’m guessing incontinence was right up there at the top of the list – and he sure didn’t look as if he could afford a washing machine. There was no where to escape to, uless I went outside. If I went outside I would miss it when they came to tell me about Sis. I (literally) buried my nose in the book I had brought and tried to pretend I was smelling roses.
When his ride got there and my little old smelly buddy left, I was greatly relieved. I got a can of air freshener and settled in for a pleasant read. Hah! In flounced a girl carrying a little puke tray with her. A puke tray? What’s THAT for? (hey! remember, it’s about 3 a.m. by now and I am still in a urine stench induced fog). Miss Flouncy procedded to hawk and gag and barf into the puke tray – sitting right there in front of me. Talk about having fun now…….! I walked sedately ran like hell to the guard station and calmly and sweetly asked demaned in a panicy manner, to know the whereabouts of my Sis.
And then I had a religious experience… I was saved by the bell – or the interns. At that exact moment, a cutie pie of an intern came out to find me and take me back to Sis. Halleluia! I then proceeded to sit with Sis and talk to her as we waited for test results and more tests and diagnoses and such. The ER was fairly quiet for a change (this is a HUGE busy public hospital) and the wait was actually a little boring. Things seemed to be going well…and about 7 a.m. it looked as if they were going to let her go home and I left to go get showered and get to work.
At 11 a.m. she was in a temporary room while they did more “stuff”. At 6 p.m. I went to see her in her actual room (not the temp). At 9 p.m. they moved her to coronary intensive care. All this time they were saying that nothing is wrong and she isn’t actually having a heart attack. They wanted her to do an angioplasty. She didn’t want to. I got home around midnight.
Next morning, she had decided antioplasty was OK. I spoke to Sis periodically during the day, but did not make it to the hospital until 6 p.m. that night. By then they had moved her AGAIN. I felt like I was playing a stupid game of “Button, Button, Who’s Got the Button”? as I looked for her. Apparently I don’t play games well, cause I heard them mention calling security to get me removed……. geeze! She was having the angioplasty. I waited and finally they got her back in a room. She was quite upset. The Doc who did the antioplasty had all the bedside manner of a rabid, menopausal, shark. On top of that there was “BLOCKAGE”.
I got her calmed down and back to sleep….I went home for some sleep of my own. Then it was THURSDAY. I went to the hospital and was there while one doc talked to her. Apparently the blockage is pretty severe – lots of it. Lots and lots. AND she tends towards diabetes…definately UNgood. But Sis was DETERMINED not to have surgery – she was going to go the alternative medicine route. OK. It’s her decision. And her sons were on their way in – so was hubby. They could do the family rally bit and make a decision. I went back to work.
When I called mid-afternoon…they had moved her again – and lost her again. Gotta love hospitals. AND I talked to Elder Son…who thought she had decided to have surgery. By the time I got to the hospital that evening…she was in ANOTHER room….and had decided to come home and consider her options – all options including surgery – with her family and away from the somewhat frantic and scattered hospital atmosphere. Perhaps another opinion…who knows what else.
And so… my nephews are both at my house…6’4″ and 6’7″…falling over the ends of my couches when they sleep. They are at the hospital now to bring Sis home.
Don’t know about her….but I got scared. And now I have to pay attention…and make some lifestyle changes of my own. Damn! I hate it when the universe speaks to me so directly…with a baseball bat. I have to get healthy? CRAPPPPIOLA!
When I get home today I hope to find Sis and Nephews and Hubby and Chickie….and all in a good mood – ready to take me out to dinner! Yeah – I know…. but a wolf’s gotta have a goal, doesn’t she?
Daaaay-um woman! The Universe is doin’ a little jig at your house isn’t it? And I know I’m not supposed to be laughing…but the waiting room stories…*snort* Sending very best wishes and general good vibes…~:)

LOL, I think the waiting room thing would have been enough to send me into cardiac arrest. Are you sure they don’t need to run a few tests on you too now? 🙂

Good lord, hospitals are created in an alternate universe, I swear! Hope Sis remains okay, but I’m skeptical about alternative medicine when it comes to something like the heart. On the other hand, I don’t trust physicians as far as I can throw ’em. Now you’ve made me think about my own lifestyle choices. Damn! I hate that. Why can’t I just eat whatever crap I want and sit on my butt! WHY!!!

Get her to have the surgery, hon. Hugz

ACK! I hope your sister is feeling/staying better. Nothing like a swift kick in the ass of someone we love to help us get our act together. Yikes.

P.S. Had pumpkin ravioli the other day and thought of you. 🙂

Woah, this was quite an ordeal. How many times did you say you lost your sis? 🙂 When does she have to make a decision? I hope that whatever she decides, it works for her. And just one more question…. she’s living with you, but still married to someone? How come he gets a say in her future? Oops, that was two questions.

RYN: It never dawned on me that you might be in the area. We’ll float between Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. How close are we?
Warning Comment
RYN: Post office NOW! (please *grin*)
Warning Comment
Ahhhhhh! So stressful, how’d you make it through a day of work with a night like that? Wishing the best for Sis, these medical things are never very fun. Did Luna say pumpkin ravioli? mmm.. and I’ve sworn off pasta….sighs~

Oh lordy! Harley’s right, she should have the surgery. I hope everything works out alright. Ain’t hospitals grand? They took my mum for an angioplasty & by the time they were finished ahe ended up in intensive care. When they moved her after the procedure they dropped the stretcher & the artery in her thigh started gushing blood. Poor thing nearly bled to death before they could get pressure …
Warning Comment
….back on it. We also went thru the same guessing game trying to find where they moved her to next. I hope your sister gets better very soon. Sometimes there’s nothing like a good scare to help us make big changes, huh? *big hugs*

I can say that the easiest thing i did lifestyle/diet change wize was to follow with lots of limited cheating from dec to now but didn’t cheat from July 24 thru Nov 24 was the protein powerlifeplan by the drs eades. I was NOT hungry and a witch with a b because i ate salami with creame cheese, etc. It worked for me. Take the magnesium and the other vitamins perhaps?

if you’ve got my phone number still i can tell youwhat i did and how much i cheated etc. There’s a website for their book but it’s not too great and the prices are high. I bought the books and did it myself with stuff available at wal* and some other stores. I was 60 pounds overfat now i’m 18. It wasn’t painful. I can’t believe it, but i didn’t want insulin shots!
