Calling All Babysitters…

My darling perpetual motion machine 6th graders have just completed a short unit on babysitting.  As their closing exercise, I asked them to pretend that they were a baby.  (for some of them, the word “baby” is more like an accurate description than a pretense)  As this baby, they needed to write a letter to their Mom/Dad/Parent and tell them exactly what they want in a babysitter.  Here, are a few results:

Dear Mom and Dad,

For a baby-sitter I want that person to be nice, fun, and will get me everything that I need.  A person that does not smoke, that is mean and I don’t want there to have a party with me being in the other room alone.

By,

Daughter #1

Dear Mom and Dad,

I know you’re going out tomorrow and I want to tell you what type of babysitter I want.  I want a baby sitter that’s nice, knows the rules and feeds me right.  I also want a babysitter who is responsible AND let’s me do what I want.

Love,

Daughter #2

Mommy and Daddy,

I don’t want a nasty babysitter.  I want a nice, playful babysitter who will take care of me and play and keep me busy and before you hire them ask them these questions:  1.  Do I really like children?  2.  Do I have patiens?  3.  Do I have a lot of energy?

Make sure they’re old enogh to baby sit me and that the are responsible.  And make sure they know the ABC of babysitting me!

Bye bye,

Son #!

PS Bye me a present for being the best little cutest adorablest little baby on earth.

Dear Mom/Dad,

It is your loving son and this friday I know you are going to go out.  I know I need a babysitter and the kind I want is a loving caring babysitter.  One that will show me entertainment and one that is nice. One that will play with me all the time.  A babysitter who will teach me new things and put on TV for I can watch and babysitter who will keep me safe.

Son #2

Dear Mom and Dad

Next week your supposed to get me a babysitter.  I want a fine babysitter thats real fun and isn’t boring.  And we can watch TV or go outside.  And who will take me shopping because I need some new shoes and some new clothes.  Thank you! Oh! Yeah!  And she can’t be mean.  And she gotta clean after me cause I’m real lazy.  And she gotta cook me some good food.

Son #3

Dear Parents,

Next week I would like to have a baby sitter who likes to go shopping and who looks like J Lo.  Also likes to watch TV  Next who is also not boring to play with cool games and likes to go to the mall.

Son #4

Dear Mom,

Mom, I need a babysitter next week so she can take care of me while you are gone.  The type of babysitter that I want is when I want something she would give it to me and have experience babysitting and do whatever I want.

Love,

Daughter #3

Dear Mom and Dad,

You need to hire me a babysitter for when you go to work.  I want Juan from across the street.  And tell the babysiter to leave me food because Juan eats all the food and doesn’t leave any for me.  Thank you – your son,

Son #5

AND LAST, BUT NOT LEAST…

Dear Mom and Dad,

I want a babysiter that will take good care of me.  I want her to watch me and play with me like the game cops and robbers.  I want her to let me stay up as long as I want.  See will let me watch as much tv as I want.

Sincerely your 6 month old son,

Son #6

You’d make a great babysitter, SW! (i bet you feel like one sometimes with all these kids!) Certainly you have a lot of the qualities they demand like you’re nice and not nasty, you have “patiens” ;-), and know the rules! lol.. Poor child who gets stuck with Juan who eats all the food.. lol.. Cute, thanks for sharing ~

You have a wonderful talent for teaching young children, Sunshine! Genetic? The future world is bound to be a better place with your influence. “As the twig is bent so grows the tree”.

LOL, those were just too cute, and I see that they all have their priorities right too, like looking like J-Lo and going to the mall and watching lots of TV! LOL 🙂

OMG, I shouldn’t be reading this stuff. When you said that “baby” was more real than pretense, you got it right. It hurts to read these, really it does. But it’s also so pitiful and touching and sad and hilarious at the same time.

I like Son #6! LOL. RYN: Where am I? I refer you to your own entry of not feeling well. I’ve been in bed wishing I could just die and get it over with. Blech. With glazed eyeballs…

they must make your job interesting

I sure wish I could have picked my babysitter when I was young. Mom and Dad did the best by hiring a full time professional sitter. She was really old, goood, and sometimes mean as hell. Stay up late, ha! Eat junk, no way. Watch some good TV…well the sitter liked soap operas so we played outside until the day was ending. Neat entry.

🙂 LOVE YOU

That’s wonderful but also an insight into how kids feel about babysitters. The fear of the unknown, the knowledge that people can be mean. Even those in the responsible role. I will try to let James and Anna watch as much TV as they want… oh, hang on, that would get me the sack!

Warm Wishes for Happy Thanksgiving for you & yours….Smiles………..

heh. . i’ve always liked reading the “letters to santa” page in papers that do it. . .

November 26, 2003

For some reason, I thought these notes to the potential babysitter might be sillier, but the common thread was “I want love. I want to be treated well.” …and we all should be.

Psst, hey, I’m here now. ITW didn’t pan out for me, and someone bought me a subscription here. So here I be. It’s good, as always, to see you again.

good morning Sunshine…you light up the day. where could one find a nicer baby-sitter? Search out the Wolfie! luv alex
