My Tummy Hurts

Interesting time the last couple of days!  Thursday I went to another middle school to observe a project that they do and see if I will be able to implement it in my school as well.  Loads of fun!  The kids have a “café” once a month.  They prepare a menu and take advance orders from faculty and staff.  On café day they set up part of the room as a restaurant.  They prep, cook, clean, serve, host, cashier, bus….really cool.  The teachers all raved about how wonderful the café is.  The menu this month had 3 selections:  Mandarin Chicken Salad with an Eggroll, Fried Chicken, greens, macaroni and cheese and a biscuit or Pulled Pork sandwich with chips.  Dessert choices were cheese cake, sweet potato pie or dirt cake.  Drinks were soft drinks, water or iced tea.  Those kids pulled it off like a charm.  I am really excited – I believe we can do this also – with some careful modifications because my room is not nearly as large…

While I was gone, I had a substitute.  Every teacher that talked to her said she looked like she had been run over by a Mack truck and that she said my kids were AWFUL.  Well, the goofy substitute left me a note – but all she said was that the kids didn’t all do their work, but she didn’t want to tattle on them cause she is only a substitute.  Well, wasn’t THAT helpful!!

Then I managed to come down with a cold that is making me MISERABLE right about now.  I am achy, congested, tired and my tummy hurts.  Ick-o poo. Ick-o-Ick-o-pooooo!

My son, the darling Young Stud, dropped by today for a couple of hours.  He’s in from NC for the weekend – and managed to squeeze a couple hours with dear old mom in between the drunken melee with his uncle and the mega-drunken melee with his dad.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrwwwwwwlllllll.  Nuff said.

Remember my dear friend?  The reason I returned to Florida?  I was going to work with her, but that didn’t work out so well?  Yeah – her.  Between this and that – we haven’t spoken since the end of May.  I called her mid-June and left a Happy Birthday message on her machine.  No response – no call on my birthday.  I had just, regretfully, written her off.  HOWEVER (and you knew there’d be a however – didn’t you?) today a gift bag containing a package of Halloween pumpkin candy and a card materialized on my front porch.  The candy is one we used to share a passion for.  The card was as sappy and syrupy as it gets.  Damn near a love story.  I read it – and an amazing thing happened.  While it was nice to read all those lovely words – they didn’t touch “me” at all.   She has no power over me at all any more.  Will I call her?  Sure, when I’m over this damn cold.  Will we rekindle our friendship?  Maybe.  But only COMPLETELY on my terms.  If she can’t meet my terms, then, regrettably, it’s all done and gone. I’ll miss the friendship, but not her.

And now sugar plums and honey-dumplings…it is time for this wimpy wolf to crawl into bed and whine for a bit.

My colds usually began with a sore throat. Figured it was a colony of bugs trying to break in. Looked for something to kill them & saw a bottle of Tussin, Longs generic for Robotussin. Sipped to cover middle & sides of throat. Sore throat gone in half hour & no cold came. This stopped 4 of the last 5 colds. The exception didn’t start with a sore throat. Treat sore throat early

I hope you are resting easy, sweet lady. It’s amazing when we recognize manipulation for what it is…even innocent manipulation.

*hugs and chicken noodle soup for the poor sick wolfie* Sorry bout your lil run of bad luck there— i hope it turns around in time for this cafe. The foreign language classes sometimes do a spanish/french cafe at lunch and the kids can come in and get spanish or french food, but it’s more like a fast food resteraunt. Pretty good stuff too. Last time I had a crepe and a licuado de fresca 🙂

Ugh, there’s something going around here, too. Or maybe I should say “lurking around here,” since it never seems to go away. I’m so glad to read that after all that “friend” put you through (selfish, selfish, SELFISH little dear that she is), you’ve been able to come away with your self intact and your head up high. I don’t know if she deserves you, frankly.

Well I hope you start to feel better soon. Happy belated Birthday to you and I’m dying to have you describe the b’day card yr dad gave you. As for me – I’m feeling a lot better, moving around reasonably easily now and tomorrow morning (My tuesday morning) I’m going down to the lab to see Max the lump. (kisses) 🙂

and thank you for being nearly my only reader…. The mandarin chicken sald sounds sooooooo great…Alexias

November 7, 2003

Hope you get over your cold soon. I’ve had friends like that. They want to be friends when it’s convenient for them. I can think of one the reunion just didn’t work out because I saw her with different eyes and she just wasn’t someone I wanted to spend time with any more. I think sometimes we just outgrow our friends.
