Blink and You Miss It…

I blinked. BlinkBlinkBlink. Chickie, my darling daughter, was determined that I wasn’t going to miss it though.

Yesterday morning, while I was wrapped in my post-shower towel and foaming at the mouth (toothpaste – not rabies) she burst into my room and handed me a card. It was a beautiful card. It told me how much she loves me and that, even though she is an ungrateful wretched creepy teenager sometimes (OK – so I embellished a little on the ACTUAL words in the card) she really does appreciate all that I do for her and loves me dearly. Then she wished me a Happy Birthday and bounded off.

A friend called me at lunch time and sang Happy Birthday.

Chickie called me around 4 and asked how my birthday was going. “Pretty much like any other day” I replied.

When I got home, there was a home-made cake on the table courtesy of Sis. It’s been FOREVER since somebody made me a cake! And it was a perfect cake! She used my cake pans…and I only have 1 square and 1 round…so the TWO layer cake is a round layer sitting on a square layer…. and decorated with little roses. Why does the old adage about square pegs and round holes come to mind? lol

And I got a present! Actually – I got two!! My dad gave me the most beautiful kerosene lamp – with a long tall fluted globe and little gargoyle guys on it – way cool. It’s so much fun when his “cool” part manages to poke it’s way through the nut-case psycho crust! And Chickie and Sis teamed up to get me a djembe. Now I have my very own drum to dance around the circle with at the beach on Sunday nights! WoooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOooooo! So I drummed and I grinned and I drummed and I grinned. And I got Chickie to drum a little (I’ll get that girl hooked yet!). Sis drummed a little. Daddy thought we were ALL insane. Then we went out to dinner. They made me leave my drum and the lamp at home. Sometimes families can be very stifling.

Later, my boy, Young Stud, called to wish me a Happy Birthday.

“Hi Mom! Happy Birthday!”
“Thank you!!
“It is today, isn’t it? (definately a little worried tone in his voice)
“Yes, it is. You got the right day this year, dear. NEXT year, I’m going to work on you actually sending me a CARD!”
“Mom…”
“Yes, Dear?”
“You didn’t give me your new address.”
“Oh! Er… Didn’t we used to threaten you with something like that when you were in high school… saying we were going to move one day while you were at school and not tell you the new address?”
“Yes, Mom. And now you’ve actually done it.”
“oops!” “I love you, honey.”
“Love you too, Mom.”

Well…..it WAS a stressful move… and I DID give him the phone number – and DESCRIBE to him where the house is….

So today is back to normal. And I am thinking that blinking is highly overrated.

OH Happy birthday girl. Way cool gifts! LMAO at the ‘you forgot to give me the address’!! Too funny. Ryn…. I had to turn them down for that very reason!! ~hugs~

Happy belated birthday….still remember the time my son bought me a mother’s day card (without being prompted to do so) and it read ‘mom, it’s your day. forget the laundry, forget the dishes, forget the dusting…just pretend your DAD!’ I almost fell off the bed laughing…course hubby didn’t find it amusing (for some odd reason) *grinning*

Belated Happy Birthday! It sounds like you had a nice one! Your kids seem terrific! I just read your last entry about lingerie, and I totally agree with you that bras are medieval torture devices! Especially underwires! I usually yank the wires right out. What do I care if I sag down to me knees?! At least I’m comfortable!

Yup, his name was really Bruno and he fit the name to a tee….great big guy, black, curly hair, built like a brick,with the kindest heart and best sense of humor ever! We still get together sometimes when I go into Chicago and have dinner, laugh, and remember all the kooky things we did as kids! And we’re BOTH still as silly as ever which always makes us love each other even more…friends!:):)
