The Good,The Bad,&The Too Horrible to Contemplate

Quick Update as I pause mid-hysterics…. I’ll leave it to you to decide which is the good, which is the bad and which is just too damn scary!

Saturday night (pre hell week loosen up) Went to a piano bar to celebrate some birthdays. Held myself to one beer s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d over 4 hours. Was fun – but dealing with drunks when you’re sober is…. a challenge. Highlight of the evening… 2 pianos playing Freebird while one pianist used the kazoo to do the solo instrumental at the beginning. Freebird on kazoo…..

Sunday. Got to Atlanta in good time. Greeted by only one cat-the thug kitty. Seems my little lady got tired of waiting around and found herself a new family to own. Found signs that my son had indeed been there earlier in the weekend – empty Gatorade bottles, spare garage door remote, spare set of keys left on kitchen counter. Went to bed early and was unable to sleep at all.

Monday. Called movers when the packers did not show in the 8-10 window I had been given. My moving “coordinator” had no clue why. How helpful. Packers showed at 11 apologizing because they had been sent on another job first. And here I thought only airlines habitually overbooked. Never mind. They moved with quiet efficiency through the house and everything was all packed up in 4 hours.

One other glitch on Monday – the man who was supposed to drain and dismantle the waterbeds as well as crate up the 6 foot long 2 inch thick glass table top seemed to be a no-show. I called the “coordinator”. Again, she was clueless. I renamed her the ‘non-coordinator’. Shortly after speaking to her, the bed/crate man called apologizing. Seems the ‘non-coordinator had told him the wrong day. He thought he was supposed to be there on Tuesday. We arranged for him to be there at 7 a.m. Tuesday so he’d be done before the movers got there. I checked into my cheapo hotel room (which was lovely) and Sis soon joined me. We trotted off for BBQ and fried sweet potato chips. Back to the motel, where I managed to get 2 hours of sleep.

Tuesday: Arrived at house at 7 a.m. to find bed/crate guy waiting. Somebody on time – was this a good omen? He got to work and all was well. By 10, however, the movers were not there. At 10:30 I once again called the non-coordinator. Yes – I am an eternal optimist and a confirmed glutton-for-punishment. With a touch of annoyance in her voice, the NC informed me that she had no control of the drivers and I should know that. However, she would call me back later to see if they ever show up. Great.

The movers show up sometime after 11. One driver with 2 loaders. Here are a few snippets of conversation.

“Did they do an inventory?”

“They inventoried the boxes they packed. Here’s your copy.”

“OK. But did they inventory everything?”

“Only the boxes they packed, not the furniture.”

“Right. So did they inventory the furniture?”

“NO!

XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

“We’re gonna do the inventory. Here – write this down. Sticker number 001. Ma’am? Ma’am?? Uh – what do you call this??”

“A Bookshelf”

“Oh. Right. Write down Bookshelf. Good condition. LM for Living Room.”

(The young man dutifully wrote”)

“OK. Ready? Sticker 002. Ma’am? What do you call THIS?”

“A Table”.

“Yeah. That’s it. Got that? Table. Good condition. LM”

The young man paused in his writing.

“Wouldn’t it be better to put LR for Living Room?”

“NO! No – that’s not right! Living Room. That’s LM – that’s how it’s spelled.”

‘”Ma’am? What’s this called?”

“A Quilt Hanger”.

“Cliff Hanger? What’s that? Ain’t that a movie?”

Need I go any farther?

Lovely fish dinner and a trip to Home Depot. Fended off 3 hysterical phone calls from Dad regarding impending purchase of new house and 2 from daughter regarding Dad. Slept like a log for 5 hours.

Wednesday. Got Sis packed and on her road to Florida. Went to closing on sale of my house – went smoothly. EXCEPT (you knew there’d be an ‘except’ didn’t you?) I lost one of the garage door openers. I had it in my hand when I went into the office for the closing, but it was missing by the time I sat down at the table to sign papers. Nowhere to be found. Go figure.

Picked up kitty and headed for Tampa. Nice drive – books on tape. Called move NC to confirm unload details. I reminded her that I need someone to reassemble beds and un-crate table. No problem I was assured. They’ll deliver you Friday and the guy will come the next day. No – that’s Saturday. He’ll be there Monday. No – that’s a holiday. On Tuesday, then. AFTER I finished explaining that I was not going to do without my table or my beds for an additional 4 days after they were delivered, she promised to arrange something and call me back. No call back yet.

My dad made me a present – a wood sign for the yard which reads “TAKE HEED OF THE OBSTREPOROUS CANINE”. My poor unaware Blossom – branded in a new neighborhood before the neighbors have a chance to experience her dubious charms for themselves.

There is still so much to come in the next few days… gotta close on the new house, and actually receive my possessions. So – really – there’s ample time left for me to lose my composure…..so keep those rebuttal articles ready – just in case!!! OH! Did I mention that my kitty is not allowed out of her kitty carrier lest she somehow infect Daddy’s precious Blanca with something horrid… and that my dad has decided to get deathly ill rather than face any of this ??????

Oh, NO!!! Please don’t hate me because I’m…..laughing my ass off!!! It’s not funny. If you’re you. It’s hilarious if you’re us, your devoted readers… Oh, you poor thing. Having been there done that, I now have the luxury to sit back and…GUFFAW at the joys of buying and selling a home and dealing with geniuses who pack up and move you. Your father is cracking me up. Can’t wait to read more!

“Freebird” on a kazoo??? ‘Tis far too horrible to contemplate!

Hey, hey….you most definitely ARE a natural wonder!I’m so proud of you for not killing anyone…hmmm, still time left though I guess. Sending good thoughts and prayers that all goes well from now on. Daddy is being a bit of a putz…think he is going to miss having you two gals around!(((((((Great big supportive hugs))))))Love, Paula

I’m not supposed to be laughing am I? Sorry, but I can since it isn’t happening to me. Just be glad you weren’t expected to pack and move it all yourself, because trust me there is no way my hubby would spend money on movers! We’d be doing it all ourselves, oh joy! LOL Poor kitty, I hope she doesn’t get to cramped in that kitty carrier.

August 29, 2002

You know…I am liking your father more and more each time I read…I believe your sense of humour was passed on to you directly by him…now that is a scarey thought for you!!! chuckles…and some how I knew that you were the middle man between dad and Kitty….leave them to it…chuckles…they will learn to love each other…and the non-coordinator is the scarey one…hope you are bigger than

August 29, 2002

sounds like some of the idiots i have had to deal with here..good luck with the rest of your move

August 29, 2002

That’s normal with others moving your stuff. The trouble with Communication failures is at its best moving like that. The alternative is to rent a van & do it under direct supervision of yourself. Dtr C & hubs did that moving from Wanut Creek, Ca to Ogden, Utah area. Everything went in one trip. Only problem was spending a cold night in the truck minus heat. Turned truck in there.

hmm I was about to laugh at you and thank my lucky stars for not being in such a predicament before but then I read or rather saw the first note. And really, I think it sums up your entire horrid experience.

Sunshine my Love – you’ve survived it all – Congrats !! Thanks for the kind note. As you can see here I sneaked out for a while to catch up on you all. The testing is going well and we are on schedule. Best wishes for a successful relocation. DrmDrgn

All this and no Karaoke! I wish to thank you for the so many lovely notes you leave me. Especially as my life is in a state of confusion at present. Often is! Love from, Alexias

August 30, 2002

Oh dear. Ahem. How terrible. Have I mentioned how much I hate moving? It’s unfortunate that Miss Kitty found herself another family, but perhaps it’s for the best. Good luck with the weekend, most cherished. With a big hug…

RYN yes I do lol not really too far from the sub-burb of nashville that I live in…well actually it’s a city in its own right but Metro Davidson county keeps swallowing up surounding cities…lol Lael

Sounds like things in your corner of the world continue to run normally- if not always smoothly. 🙂 Hang in there, things will settle down soon enough.

what do you call this? a table… i know you were frustrated, but i was dying with laughter.. sorry! but thank you {smile}

You’ll be fine SW….take two sanity pills and call me in the morning. -Dr. Jeff

Re:”Daddy”…-you’re surprised by that? Sounds liek you have had a busy few days, honey! do you have to pay for that “Non-Coordinator”? Couldn’t you hold back some of the money seeing as she is NOT doing a very good job? Hope the move IN goes OK. Hugz Harley nsi

Totally exhausted, on your behalf! Hope your kitty gets out of that carrier soon.. 😀 moonmaid

drunks when you are sober stinks. Surgery will be on tuesday sept 3 provided i’m not too sick from anything else, i copied the same entry to od as here. CBC will determine. I have some itchy spots and i feel tired, but that could be bugs, stress hives?? it’s possible, never really had them before but who knows, Toad said, now you got hives you’re still having surgery! ;L)

hey your dad and i have a lot in common according to toad. First i got bronchitis so i dind’ thave to have this surgery. THe prior one all the cysts disappeared from the vaginal ultra sound on thursday to the one on monday. WHRERE did they go? 🙂 *grin*

Now I’m REALLY laughing–at DarkLordofDoom’s little animation up there! Seems to sort of encapsulate Life As We Know It, eh? What to obsess about, what to obsess about, hmmm…..YOU ARE CORRECT! Whiny-loser rock critics!!! Oh, trust me, I could come up with an obsession to bitch about in a snap… LOL!!! HEY! Are you surviving the move?

Hi, I notice you leave notes for Ermen, could you please tell her that try and I may I am unable to leave notes for her. I would really appreciate it, as since she moved to the OD I haven’t been able to communicate with her. I used to be The Lady of Skye now I am…

Come to OD for the link to the truly too horrible to contemplate. Full story at the Watcher’s; pic link at OD Torin. With a grin…

You have been so kind to stop by with notes for my entries. I’m working harder to get into FOD more often so I can do the same. Your moving hassles remind me why I hate to move. Yikes! Can’t anyone do anything right anymore?

This is so funny; ever thought of writing a column of Sunshine faces life?

September 5, 2002

Whenever someone is coming to the house they ALWAYS come an hour late saying they had a last minute job first. ALWAYS!!! Unless… of course… you think “Oh they won’t be here until an hour late,” so you dash out to get that so important BLT sandwich because you’ve run out of everything… then they turn up, go away and you have to reschedule!

September 5, 2002

will it let me note today?

September 5, 2002

I hope I did not just waste my only noting possibility.Obstreperous canine! I love it.The piano bar sounds like fun.Okay, let’s see if this puppy saves, too. 🙂
