Giving Equal Time

Well, I’ve been disappointed and disillusioned a bit by the kids that are often around my home and I spent a bit of time “licking my wounds”. On top of that, I had to deal with a police department that really hasn’t wanted to do even the bare amount of looking into the theft of my computer. Mind you, I don’t think the computer will be found at this point, but I think it’s important that the kids see that the police DO investigate crimes. I would hate to think that kids are getting the idea they can do whatever they want without fear of repercussion.

To that end I have been calmly and insistently been pursuing the police, until I finally got a detective assigned. Then we played phone tag for two days. We finally connected and I believe I like this man, and that he will give the investigation some genuine effort. He’ll be kicking it off Monday with a conversation with my daughter.

Enough of that. Here’s where the equal time comes in.

Last weekend I allowed my daughter to have 2 girls stay over on Friday night. These are 2 girls that are often here on the weekend. They are well used to “living” here. I woke up Saturday morning to the sight of all 3 girls in my bedroom. I groaned and rolled over. The only reason all 3 of them would be in my room that early would be that they already had my day planned and couldn’t wait to tell me of the rigors that lay before me.

Imagine my surprise (and delight) when they showed me what they had brought into the room with them – a plateful of scrambled eggs and pancakes! All 3 had delightful smiles on their faces, accompanied by slightly expectant looks. I steeled myself for an “interesting” taste experience, based on my daughter’s previous forays into the culinary arts. I got a double surprise as I found the eggs light, fluffy and tasty and the pancakes quite delicious as well. My surprise must have shown, because they all giggled and ran out of the room to have their own breakfasts.

A bit later I set out of the kitchen to clean up the mess that was sure to be lurking for me….and nearly had a stroke! All the dishes had been washed and there was NO mess! All those pleasant surprises and it wasn’t even 10 a.m. yet!

Sunday, the visiting girls had gone home and I had a headache. Mid-afternoon I lay down for a nap, hoping that would help. I was vaguely aware of my daughter coming in and out of the apartment, but I paid little attention. About the time I was considering waking up, Chickie pops into my bedroom waving a bottle of Windex around and announced that she had just cleaned out my car. And she had – and done a very thorough job of it! This from a young lady who would rather interact with friends than anything else in the world. I was quite pleased, to say the least!

So, a bit of my disappointment was eased and some of my disillusion erased. I am grateful to those 3 for more than breakfast and a clean car. I am grateful to them for reminding that one bad apple doesn’t HAVE to spoil the whole bunch. And right now, I am very happy with this batch of apples!

And now to post this and run off to fix breakfast and tackle the day…..And catch up with all of you….a little later today. The sun is shining here…..and all is right with the world.

Uhm, Wolf, are you sure your kids haven’t been replaced by aliens? It’s nowhere near Christmas, you haven’t yelled at them, which means…it’s paranoia time. Kidding. 🙂

Yes, you do have some good ‘Apples” there, Sunshine! Don’t give up on getting your computer back. The culprit should NOT get away with it. As you say, it will just encourage more of it

What a nice surprise. I envy you, but you deserve some special treatment after all that’s happened recently.

What a delightful surprise 🙂 And even more so after such a tough time. Our kids can pull through when necessary, eh? –pollyanna unplugged

This entry made me feel REALLY GOOD, thanks! And I can just imagine how the experience made you feel. Good for your daughter and her friends.

sounds like she’s too old to need me to nanny her now! Ah well 🙂 I reckon she’s in good training for when you’re old and in need of her 24 hour a day care though 😉

ahh..what a sweet kid…sometimes they really pull through, dont they??…

Wow…what are you feedin’ the kiddos over there?? What a great bunch! Good timing too. ~:)
