It’s Been Years………

It’s been years since I’ve been to an amusement park. MANY years. Let’s see, the last one was Opryland in Nashville. I guess that’s closed now – been paved over to cater America’s real favorite pastime – shopping!

This weekend to celebrate my son’s birthday (as well as to get my daughter to quit nagging me) we went to 6 Flags Over Georgia. I am a morning person. I like to get going early.……and then I collapse early. It’s a workable arrangement for me. My kids have learned to adapt. “That’s the way MOM is.”

So early Saturday morning the 4 of us piled into the car. For those of you doing the math and wondering how 1 mom + 1 son + 1 daughter = 4, I acquired a second daughter for the day. Seems only fair. I was always acquiring extra sons when my boy was that age. Anyway, off we go, me boy-o driving and me trying to remember not to direct him. We got there before the PARKING LOT was even open. The kids groaned and shot me one of those “Howcanyoubesodumb?” looks. I chose to look at it as good planning. After all, we would be one of the first 20 cars into the parking lot! Turns out we only had to wait minutes before being allowed to pay for the privilege of parking. Then we got to buy tickets! Turns out that buying season passes is only $5 more than buying actual day tickets. Yes, for those of you still doing the math, I coughed up the extra $20. It was worth the peace of mind that I immediately got from knowing that I would not feel at all guilty if we were all pooped out by noon (OK-I was worried about ME being pooped, not the kids).

We bought tickets and got into line to enter the park which still wasn’t open. Not a bad wait – the crowd was not huge and actually had a pretty genial undertone. It was more as if we were all in this together than in cutthroat competition to get in first. And these polite census takers kept coming up and gathering demographic information from us. I tried to explain to them that perhaps they were skewing their information by separately questioning each and every member of the party individually at different times, but collecting group answers……but this was too advanced a concept.

We finally got in and the kids got to ride the really horrid rides fairly quickly while I indulged myself in minimal waiting and crowd watching. After 2 horrid rides my daughter was looking a little green…..and I got an account of the conversation aboard the ride.

“How many upside-down loops are there on this?”

“Just one – that was it!”

“Then what the HELL is that?!?!?!??”

That conversation was between the 2 girls. Next the boy child gets to chime in.

“I feel like I’m gonna throw up!”

“If you throw up, I’m gonna kick your a**!!!!!!!!!”

Brothers are very compassionate.

We tried our hands at driving and at the carnival type games. My son gathered a crowd with his putting skills and the girls both went home with LARGE stuffed animals. Some guy even bought an extra that we had from my son for $10. I figure he was gonna go give it to his girlfriend and brag about his putting skills…….

We didn’t see ANY of the shows and the lines got WAY too long. I was not willing to spend 2 hours crowd watching while the kids stood in a line for ONE ride. It was mid afternoon and hot. We went home happily secure in the knowledge that we could go back tomorrow….or next week….whenever we wanted. Not, however, until we had bought copies of the picture they snapped of us upon entrance. The girls just HAD to have them. My daughter loves pics and the other little girl has a BIG crush on my son. Me? I kept a copy to remind me that it is best to fix one’s hair before leaving the house, regardless of the day’s plans because there is bound to be a camera lurking somewhere.

I’ve often wondered how I would react to those rides now that I am an adult. Probably get dizzy & barf. Sounds like a wonderful day with your kids.

There’s a new ride at Marine World here that has lots of upside down loops. Wonder if they would let me ride on it with this darn 86 yr old body my mind is lugging around?

Thanks for the hair tip. 😉 Hey, look on the bright side. It could have been raining. (or would that have been a blessing?)

your children are fortunate to have such a wonderful mom with such a great sense of humor…you have brought a big smile to my face again…Thank you!

I’m still laughing at the thought of your hair. I came home from school today & told my mother that several people had complimented me on my shoes &/or my outfit & she said, “too bad your hair looks like that!”

Glad ya’ll had a good time. I’m 1 of those types who worry too little about my hair often leaving the house w/it still wet. *shrugs* Combing it oft doesn’t improve it much. LOL. How’s the job going?

ACK! Pass the nausea rag…I’m barfy just thinking about it. LOL! Good on you for bringing the kiddos to the land of Horrid Rides AND you can go back again and again! ~:)

HA! So, I guess when they turn 20, Chuckie Cheese is out??? You are a brave girl there SW! Hope the job is going well… or wait… Is the job going well? Forget it.. You just be well!

it sounds,um, interesting. hugs to you brave lady

Memories!

Sounds like a fun day. The horrid rides always make me throw up, but after all that’s what dogs do best, right? 🙂 Love + Hugs,

It sounds like you had a great day! (And thanks for the hair tip! It may come in handy! 🙂 )

Can I go with you next time? I promise I wont whine or cajole and I definately wont whoopsie on anything, because I will not go near those roundy-round rides. =)

Thanks for taking me along with you for the day. I’m an early bird, too. But those rides make me queazy. Last time I went to an amusement park was two years ago in Hamburg, Germany. Great for people watching.

SOunds like a fun day SW, moments to treasure. Love,

*laughing* This was one of the good things about keeping my hair buzzed for years. Now I’m growing it out and have to worry about it! LOL. Hugs

Oh, yeah…I ‘member them days!!! Can’t take the crowds anymore…drove two days to DisneyWorld once and left after TWO hours…

Been a while since I’ve been to 6flags… was the gardening and landscaping pretty good? In years past it has been quite good, almost worth seeing in itself.

One of those “bad hair” days, huh? LOL I’ll bet you were dragging at the end of that day? Hugs

I can see I’ve missed alot in OD land. My BD was the 27 and hubby’s the 26..I know ppl whose BD’s are all over April…cool! Left u a note under the 1 u left me…thanx…love ya…kidd j

Sounds like you had a great time! I love theme parks! Lets me be the big kid I am without other adults thinking I’m a loony! Hugz

Sounds good to me. I use to love taking the kids to amusement parks and riding with them.
