Killing It
What a weird expression, when someone says they are “killing it” to mean they are doing something really well. Shouldn’t it mean the opposite?
There is a thread going on over at Reddit right now, where the question is “What was the closest you ever came to actually killing someone?”. I couldn’t think of instances where I had almost killed anyone (which is good, I guess) – but it did make me think of times when I maybe came close to being killed.
Like the time I was a stupid pre-teen and me and a bunch of other dumb kids were messing around with one of my friend’s father’s guns in their backyard and I came about an inch away from walking into a bullet (which fired past my head so close it made my hair move). Learned respect for firearms that day.
Or the time a tornado passed so close to my childhood home that it hit a couple houses down the street and we heard it pass.
Or the time I fell down a flight of stairs so hard that I blacked out.
In retrospect, I’ve had a few brushes with harm – but probably not any horrible ones except the first one. More brushes with serious injury, than brushes with actual death.
Anyway, stay safe everybody!
When I first read your title I thought you were going hunting and getting dinner…Oh well….
But whatever you do well continue doing it well…by the way this site is another thing you do well.
@jaythesmartone thanks! Nice of you to say 🙂

You are very right about this saying – WHY. Why is language so weird!!!
That thread is insane. Killing is not fun or thrilling.
But, have you watched the Netflix show “You” – Because it is a good character catching murder thriller….which I don’t usually like. But I liked this one.
@zucchini I will have to check that out, I like a good mystery/thriller 🙂

Welcome to the English language! 🙂 Where “cool” and “hot” can come to mean the exact same thing. YAY ENGLISH! 😁
Glad you only got a hair out of place… firearms ARE to be respected (I shoot since I was 7). It’s the mindset of thinking they’re “fun toys” that make you into a superhero that lands folks in trouble.
Where I’m from, they say, “Mala hierba nunca muere“… I’m glad you, like some of us others, are a dandelion 🙂
@thenerve I had to google that, and now that I did I remember my grandfather saying something very similar (but not in Spanish). I’m proud to be a weed!

Somebody was watching over you, my friend.
@curse-lastverse yes it seems that way, because it wasn’t me 🙂
