And I May Be Foolish to Fall as I Do
‘Hold on
Though we may be too young
To know
This ride we’re on’
The last truly teenage thing I did was to slip out of the party alone one night into the dark and clamber into the lone apple tree in the apartment’s yard so no one could find me. I had too many feelings for anyone to be seeing me.
‘Depth over distance was all I asked of you
And everybody round here’s acting like a stone’
For a while, I listened to people smoke and talk on the porch, Mister’s voice too deep to hear more than the melody of speech, everyone else louder, clearer. Everything about being 20 is awful, but I can still smell the ocean.
‘Still there’s things I’d do
Darling I’d go blind for you
If you let grow sometimes
Let it grow sometimes
Let it grow‘
-Ben Howard
I love this….the thought of climbing into the lone apple tree to just be outside it all…
