Finally starting to feel better and a few pics
Sorry I haven’t written in a bit but I really wasn’t well after having the baby. My blood pressure was really whacked out. A few hours after I had him I walked down to the special care nursery to see him for the first time and while I was standing there I started to black out. Next thing I know I’m in my room getting magnesium to stop me from having a stroke or seizure. That was some nasty medicine. I felt drunk for about two days from it so I couldn’t even walk down to see Gavin. They wheeled me down a few times and brought him to our room once but other than that, Ben went down for all his feedings and I had to stay in my room. 🙁
ok, now typing this one handed so bear with me. 😉
So the mag did end up working and they got my blood pressure down and I was about to be released two days after I had Gavin but as they were getting my discharge papers ready I started feeling sick again… bad headache and light headed. I had the nurse take my blood pressure and it was way back up again. So they had to restart an iv and pump me full of another bp med and it wasn’t working that well so they ended up keeping me two more nights and releasing me while it was still high.
Gavin came home the day after I did and thank God my mom has been here since because I kept having dizzy spells and I’ve been afraid to carry him around… especially up the stairs. The day after he came home I also started getting the chills really bad and the next minute I’d be completely covered in sweat. I didn’t have a fever so it was pretty strange. I also had absolutely no appetite and felt nauseaus most of the time. So a few days after I came home I had a follow-up dr aapt and I was feeling so terrible and was sleep deprived and spent the whole dr appt fighting back tears (and failing at the fight). Also my blood pressure was almost as high as it was when they put me on the mag and my stitches from tearing where (and still are) infected. So the dr was real worried about me and called an internist that was right next door and sent me over there. The internist told me that if he hadn’t been able to see me my dr was planning on sending me back into the hospital. So anyways from both of those appts I ended up coming home with a new stronger blood pressure medicine, antibiotics for a UTI and zoloft for post partum depression.
That was all about two weeks ago and just in the last couple of days my blood pressure has finally come down and stabalized a little. I’m finally getting my appetite back (I’ve lost 30 lbs already…) and I don’t feel quite so overwhelmed or down. I was dreading my mom leaving this weekend but now I feel like I’m ready. I’m looking forward to some alone time with Gavin since I haven’t had much of that yet. So things are looking up. Now if we could just get the little man to sleep in his crib or travel bed we’d be all set. 😉
