Morning News Report

 The bad news:   The other day I was at my mom’s when B called all excited to tell me she got the promotion and will be moving to the other property the first week of Janurary. She told me she asked the GM if he had a replacement in mind for her position and he told her that as of that moment I was his prime candidate.  The next day however, he showed her an e-mail with our Regional manager who had told him that he was going to hire this girl from outside the company to fill B’s position….kicking me out of the opportunity. The e-mail also went on to say he had some one better and more well groomed for the position than this random girl they decided on and there was no other position open for her, but when the hire ups make a decision what power does he have? It makes me feel good that there was no question about who he wanted to fill B’s position but, I’d be lying if I said I was okay and not phased by the company’s decision. I would have liked the promotion…I feel ready for it now, and confident enough to handle it you know? I am not really surprised though, if they could hire a Walmart employee to take the AGM spot over B, they are perfectly capable to put some girl who has no experience or knowledge of hotel work straight into a supervisor position. The part that sucks is these two girls are going to be USELESS to everyone. The new AGM has done nothing but roam around to here and there and hasn’t learned a damn thing about the running of a hotel. The stuff you teach her she forgets literally 2 seconds later, so you’re forever explaining really basic stuff. Now we will have TWO people who know nothing, can’t even check some one in, or answer the phone, telling everyone what to do. I am not really sure what the company is thinking when there are excellent candidates for these jobs besides myself and B who would actually be of substance to the company.

   The new AGM is already pissing off employees by bossing them around..which isn’t really a problem when you know WHY you’re bossing some one around, and what each persons job duties entail.  I am pretty sure it’s because she’s young, and new, and she’s trying to make her place in the company and demand respect, but instead she is just rubbing everyone the wrong way and making more enemies than friends. I haven’t had any run-ins with her, if anything she’s trying to buddy up with me. I don’t blame her though, B is being just outwardly bitchy to her and impatient because of her anger over being passed up for the AGM position by a Wal-mart employee. I dunno, the situation sucks but it’s not the new AGM’s fault you know? She just applied and got the job and inherited a bunch of bullshit. She didn’t come into the company with an agenda to steal the spot from B. I think B forgets that. Just like when this new supervisor comes in, yeah it sucks and I should have gotten that job but, I can’t hate the new girl for the company’s decision. 

   Mr. EX AGM made me feel better when I called and told him what all happened. He thinks because our property is so old (43 years) that the company is hiring people they don’t care about to run it and will use them to sink the ship and give them severance. Meanwhile they’re slowly finding homes for the people they DO want to keep in the company (i.e. creating an un-needed position at another property for B)  and moving them. It kind of explains why my GM has made no effort to properly train our new AGM and just lets her run around and do whatever she wants. He’s never let any of the other management staff to get away with anything…he’s usually all over what they are doing and why they are doing it, or when are they going to do it..he hasn’t shown this new girl anything..I feel bad for her, she must feel kind of overwhelmed and lost, not to mention crazy intimidated by everyone who knows what they’re doing and knowing it well. Anyway ,Mr. Ex AGM told me to ride his coattails. When he gets done with this Memphis job and comes back to this town and takes over the other newer property (or here’s hoping: A BRAND SPANKIN’ NEW PROPERTY that is being rumored) he will take me with him. Right now out of 130 hotels he’s the Golden Boy of the company…taking one of the worst properties and making it number 1 in the region and number 10 in the entire company in four months. He will get whatever hotel he wants when his stint in Memphis is done, and he’ll get whatever staff he wants. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that all the movement that’s supposed to happen the first of the year really does happen, and that somehow there’s a place for me in all of it. 

The good news:  I can keep the pay raise I just got and have less responsibility. This may be a win for me after all. I’m keeping my head up though. I will keep doing my job and excelling, because good things come to those who wait right?  Another plus, I have a crap ton of vacation hours again which means I can use them whenever I want. Management does not get so lucky…  I’m thinking another visit to Michigan after the holidays. =)

That sucks about the passover. Great news about the pay raise. I too count my blessing where I am at when many others have been laid off. In fact about 265 last year.
