Avoiding The Break In

It seems to be a relatively boring week compared to my crazy weekend. I have managed to pick classes that seem to give tests all in the same week or on the same day. So really I have been studying my butt off, and I know on one test I didn’t do so well. But I don’t care for the teacher much and I think he grades un-neccessarily tough. He’s also very involved with himself, which is super annoying.  Tomorrow I am having a symbolic logic  test and I am not happy about that at all. The first day I kind of understood everything, but by the second meeting everything stopped making sense, lol. I have a feeling I might have to drop the class which I hate doing because I don’t want to give up on myself. But I don’t think I can do it either…so it’s quite the delima. I don’t want to ruin my transcripts with staying and getting a bad grade either. So I guess we’ll just have to see how the first test for this class goes and how much easier things may get. Or not get. Either way, pray for me, lol.

Monday night the hotel was robbed. I am glad I wasn’t working, nor schedualed to work. Crazy, I have been working for the hotel here in Cape almost three years now, and we’ve never been like, robbed robbed. By strangers. According to the night clerk, he got a call around 1:30 am from a man stating that while using the guest laundry room to wash some clothes, he was certain he lost a very sentimental cufflink. So he insisted the night clerk go and look for it. Sooooooo the night clerk puts him on hold, and goes to the other end of the building to look for the cufflink. He’s gone for a few minutes and when he comes back to the desk he notices the cash drawer is partly open and that the man he was on hold with was gone. So he opens the drawer and the entire cash tray, his deposit AND the back up bag was all gone. He also said the camera monitor was turned off. Also, the back door in the laundry room that opens to the outside was unlocked and partially open. (It can only be opened from the inside. So, I am thinking if it wasn’t an inside job, then they came in the front door, took the money, and went out the back door.) I guess it’s a good thing the night clerk was tricked into going to the back of the hotel so he didn’t have to face the culprits. Who knows what would have happened had he’d pretended to go by putting the man on hold and just sitting there for a few minutes waiting to tell the guy to call back during normal business hours to look for the cufflink. He could have been hurt in the process of the robbery.

He feels pretty stupid and humiliated for being dooped by robbers. By being made a fool. OH, another thing, when he left the office, he left the cash drawer unlocked! So he walked all the way to the back of the hotel and didn’t make sure his money drawer was locked. Crazy huh? When I am here alone I make sure EVERYTHING is locked at all times. I am not getting hurt for this job, lol no way. I also think I have a little bit more common sense when it comes to things like that. The desk clerk is really book smart, but not really real life smart….I think I am the other way around, lol. More common sense but no scholastic sense….Unfortunately I don’t think I was blessed with both qualities! Anyway, my mom is a bit worried about me working here. She thinks that whoever did this might see that they got away with it and try again, on my shift or something. I am oddly not scared by it. Like, I just can’t believe it happened. I don’t think the reality that we were robbed has dawned on me yet. I think it’s too un-believable. The police think the night clerk did it, but I don’t think he did. Lee also thinks it was an inside job, or that this was Robby’s way for seeking revenge on the hotel. Which is stupid, because if he was seeking revenge with anyone it would be her, and it would be just as easy to key her new van or something, not rob his fellow employees. I just can’t see him planning the whole thing either. I’d be surprised. I think if anything it would have been one of our other hostile employees that have been fired or quit or something. Who knows. Either way, it’s a bit perplexing to think we were robbed, and now we’re going to be in the paper as "one of those hotels/motels.." Which is a shame because this is a really nice establishment. Sigh.

Frank has been pretty busy catching up and school work and also doing the website stuff. We’ve barely talked lately, but I am used to that. The first month or so that he’s back at school he’s pretty pre-occupied. He’ll miss me soon and set aside some Hanna time soon I am sure…I hope. I went to the post office today and picked up an application for a passport. With him wanting to plan a vacation over Xmas break, and me wanting to also go to his graduation at Oxford next year, I will need a passport. So it’s probably a good thing to get that started so I have it in time should we go some where over break this winter. Just a few more months and Xmas break will be here and I can see him!!! Man, not getting to see him in August really threw me off. I miss him like mad. But last night he made my heart melt…he got up in the middle of the night (for him) to use the restroom I guess, and then he called to talk to me for a few minutes before I got off work. *mushy sigh*  It was just nice to hear his voice……it always is though.

That is so weird! The exact same thing happened to me when I was working for a hotel. Only I WAS in the room when they took the money, but I was behind a wall & I heard nothing. Weird, I know, but it happened. I also made the mistake of leaving my keys under the desk, so they had access to the lock. My manager actually made me pay the money back! Can you believe that? =)

wow, I’m glad nobody was hurt in the robbery, but very sorry it happened. passport is a good idea so you can be ready as soon as plans are made.
