Homosexuality – Genetic?

How many people believe homosexuality is a genetic predisposition? And if that is the case, then would you consider it a genetic abnormality/defect? In order for natural reproduction, we require opposite sexes to play their parts, so homosexuality (in this theory) would actually be a defect in one’s genes.

If homosexuality is genetic (nature vs. nurture), then it is either a genetic disorder, or a new development from beautiful mother nature as a form of population control. However, understanding the fact that it has existed throughout history, I can only believe it to be the former.

If one argues that homosexuality is NOT a disorder/disease, then one must say that is not genetic in any nature specifically, and that it is in fact socially engineered, and a choice.

Just my thoughts tonight.

I’m no scientist (actually I am.. though this is outside my realm of expertise), but what do you say about non-human-animals that hump same-gendered animals within their species? Eventually they get lucky and it’s the opposite gender? But then aren’t most non-human-animals compelled copulate only for reproduction? What of foot fetishes, fart sniffing, etc. Do these represent disorders? Disease?

since there is homosexuality outside of the human race, i’m going to say it’s naturally occurring.

I believe it’s genetic. It’s only a defect insofar as it reduces the number of partners of the opposite sex one has, assuming that there’s not something else that prevents reproduction. A gay man is still capable of having sex with a woman, or a lesbian can ask for and get plenty of donor material for the conception of a baby. tchau.

animals (that includes us) who can feel pleasure will engage in any activity that will bring pleasure. Some animals (that includes us) don’t have a stop sign in their head predisposing them to steer clear of other animals with the wrong traits for producing offspring. Plain old sex, I’m bi. Love, it’s gotta be a girl (I’m male). Pleasure means nothing, pair bonding means everything.
