Like a punch in the gut

I had quite a week last week. You’d think if you’re extremely specific about how you want your meeting room set up, that facilities would know what they are doing and actually do it

No such luck here

Then my favorite office pal Pete got me all riled up, so much so that I stormed off mid-conversation! I know he knew he crossed the line when he kept texting me at home.

Can’t stay mad at him, he’s such a dick, but I totally get him and his crotchety ways

I went over to the Marriott in Union Square, for a lovely site visit for my upcoming end of Leadership Program.  They are really bending over backwards to help me and it’s going to be so lovely.  I decided to walk back because, hello, it’s SF Union Square during the holidays!  I walked out of my way to get a delish eggnog chai and a veggie wrap at the chai house and tried to juggle all my goodies through the maze of homeless and drug addicted folks along the route

Stopped off at Pete’s office, gave him a hard time about working and listening/watching the impeachment hearing and went to my desk to eat and get finished with the pile of stuff still waiting for me

About 20 minutes later, I get a chat from my other boss, the VP of IT, asking me if I had a moment and if so, please come to his office. Didn’t think much of it, he’s been traveling a lot and I figure he had receipts for me.   Boy was I WAY off

I came into his office and shut the door. He was sitting on his desk and said:

I wanted you to be the first to hear, because I know you’re friends with him, but Pete is not longer with the company

I later told Pete via LinkedIn that if it was any consolation, I nearly threw up on the VP when he told me

Karen came in on Friday (after being gone all week in JAX) and she and I talked briefly about what happened.  I feel so untethered without him. He was my go-to for everything. I cannot imagine how things are going to go with him not here

I know it’s just a coworker, and yeah I may have had a slight crush on him, but he was here for 15 years. He knew where all the bodies were buried. He said he knew he screwed up. I told him no matter what, I was on his side

So now I have to navigate this place alone. It’s not fair that I don’t have my ally anymore
