While the Coffee Cools

Sometimes I don’t know where to start so I will just start here.

They are vacuuming the nurses station so it’s really loud and I can’t hear my radio or myself think. Been going over the same area for about 20 minutes. Move it along buddy.

Scale this morning said I only gained 6 pounds on my trip – so I’m feeling better about that. Still not feeling 100% health wise but I am trying to be sunny and cheerful today. Nick is feeling crappy too, he is not trying to be positive at all.

I heard the nurses talking this morning about how it was supposed to be sunny and nice out today but it just started raining. We shall see.

What’s your favorite thing to make for a potluck? We have one coming up for Halloween and I want to make something new with a spooky-ness added to it. I used to always make desserts because I love to bake – but people tended to gravitate to the store bought desserts over the home made ones. I went into the small town grocery store about a year back and asked one of the the clerks what she liked to make for potlucks and she gave me this great recipe for a chip dip and even helped me grab all the ingredients. It was such a huge hit that when I didn’t make it, people asked where it was. We have a bunch of new people though so I want to do something different. I think last year I made dip and deviled eggs where the inner part looked like a little pumpkin. Used a little slice of green pepper for the stem.

I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving, but I do every year. I love making the huge traditional meal even if it’s just for Nick, Kat and I. I always dress up in a big cozy sweater with a little apron. While everything is cooking, we watch the Macy’s Day Parade and I like to put up the Christmas decorations. Nick and I have the same fight about it every year. He says “It’s too early for Christmas decorations, it’s not even December yet, wait until the 15th”, I say, “I want to have the lights on while I am eating the turkey, it’s a lot of work only to enjoy it for a few days, and you’ve always said you don’t care about how I decorate the house any other time of year. ” It ends with me thinking I won’t be able to do it, and I wake up the next morning and everything is out of storage and in the living room.

One year, my dad was working, my mom took Katherine somewhere and grandma was somewhere … It was just Nick and I. I still did the whole 9 yards. The only difference was we did everything in our underwear. Why not be comfortable? Who were we trying to impress? Although Kat was missed it’s one of my favorite Thanksgivings. Sitting on the couch, watching the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special, eating a huge plate of food and no pants. That was also the first year I tried making the turkey sweet & spicy instead of the traditional flavorings.

Any-whoozle-doozle … I better get to work on the mile of scanning.

I haven’t been to a potluck in a very long time. And since I tend to burn things when I cook, I would go the lazy route. Like putting potato chips into a Halloween bowl.

As for the decorations, I tend to think Thanksgiving is the line. I probably get that from my dad because he would put the lights up the day after Thanksgiving, usually.

@heffay I’d just rather get to enjoy it for a full month with all the work put into it. PLaus it puts you in the holiday mood when you don’t have all your family around.

Hubby has had a few pot lucks and each time I make either chocolate banana chip muffins or brownies.  The brownies are a bigger hit for some reason they all say it’s better then the store bought.  Maybe you could add pumpkin spice or orange food coloring to make them more holiday right?
