when you’re young, it’s all about speed.
speed to school, to work, to band practice, to soccer.
we are here and now
(and that is all we are)

shivering,
the thought of a number, a statistic,
that means i am more of a risk-taker than i ever thought.
(remember the night we piled into his car, two in the passenger seat, four in the back?
it could have cost us everything.)
