Saturday’s a blur

I got up early and got my act together to walk the 2 miles or so to the Enterprise to get my rental.  Yes, I am finally in the rental, that I will drop off in Paso Robles and finally have my car back. It’s been quite a month to be sure dealing with all manner of transportation issues

I set out to walk up to the main drag (El Camino) and crossed over to go to Paris Baguette to get a beverage and  you know, baked goods. I really shouldn’t be eating all of that processed flour, but it was too hard to resist.  And I was walking 2 miles, so there’s that

As I walked, I noticed a small little out of the way car repair shop. Never saw it before and I have driven down the El Camino hundreds of times. Thinking that if I don’t take my car to the car dealership for oil changes and upkeep, this little shop might be worth investigating

I also noticed as I walked, how oppressively humid it was, so early (8:30am) and here in the Bay Area.  I was dripping from all over as I walked!

I get to Enterprise and was greeted by a blast of very cold air, and I didn’t even mind that I was like 4th in line.  Finally got my spiffy Nissan Rogue and drove home to finish getting ready because I had an adventure across the bay

I had started chatting online with Sean a week or so ago.  He is what we in the singles world call “geographically undesirable”. He lives like 100 miles away from me.  My parents live 170, to give some perspective

He’s super sweet and well, I am always down for a little adventure.  Friday night we chatted about the mid-way point between us, and we came up with Point Richmond, which is just north of Oakland and Berkeley.  We agreed to meet at this taqueria, both of us not knowing anything about this town whatsoever.

I knew the moment I drove into this little town that I would fall in love with it.  It is nestled on the upper part of the SF Bay, with water all around it. With quaint (and huge!) houses nestled into the hillside, looking both east away from the bay as well as facing the water.  It was just so damn cool

We met at this little place that was actually a little hole in the wall place, which was quite popular.  Lovely conversation over lunch and we walked around looking into shops.

We decided to jump in my car and drive to the water, on the other side of the hill, to visit the Rosie the Riveter National Park and Museum. It was then that I realized why I had such a great feeling about this place and this part of the Bay Area.  The shipyards of Richmond provided the US Navy with SO many ships during WWII, and that women were a major part of the workforce during that time.  Rosie the Riveter as people know her, started from this shipyard town north of Oakland.

I LOVE WWII history!  I was in my element to be sure and so was Sean.  We had an amazing time seeing all the propaganda of that time, learning more about what happened there on the piers, and just learning about this area that was such a cool surprise for us.  We walked around the water talking and just goofing off, enjoying the day.  Such a lovely way to spend the day.

As I was driving back, I asked if he wouldn’t indulging me in a little adventure and he gladly agreed.  We took off through this little tunnel through the hillside and it ended up at a park that sat next to the water.  We headed back up the hill and were checking out all the houses along the way.

Overall, it was a really pleasant and well spent day!  We hugged and drove our separate ways, promising to text when we each got home.  I had so much fun looking at properties to rent there, mapping out how long it would take to get to work for both of us, and whether I could finally take a ferry to work (silly but it’s such a cool way to commute to me)

Very quiet (and hot) evening, but really a great day and a new favorite place to explore
